For reasons unknown the now sadly defunct Face To Face never really broke through to be as big as their South California punk contemporaries like The Offspring or Green Day. They certainly had the talent and great songs and for anyone unfamiliar with them who likes melodic, intelligent and emotional rock music, this "Best Of" compilation is a great place to get to know one of the hidden treasures of modern rock music. Starting with early high tempo punk tunes like "You've Done Nothing" and the excellent punk anthem and hit single that never was "Disconnected" and moving on later to tracks from their under-rated "Ignorance Is Bliss" album which pre-empted much of the modern Emo scene by a good couple of years, there are a lot of great tunes to get your teeth into and a good degree of musical variety to stave off boredom. Here is a band as comfortable with quiet and moody reflective moments as they are playing turbo-charged rock songs. My favourite track is the excellent "Out Of Focus" taken from their penultimate "Reactionary" album, which gallops along at a fearsome speed, has a tune that lodges in your brain, has lyrics that most people can relate to and is above all played with passion. All in all a bargain, but be warned it may lead to other Face to Face purchases.
