I wouldn't consider this "clean" eating 8 Jan. 2014
By Carly - Published on Amazon.com

I realize there are a lot of definitions of clean eating, but I would think that a cookbook that labels itself as "clean eating" would restrict itself to a pretty rigorous interpretation of the definition of clean eating. I was surprised that there were so many processed foods, mainly the processed fake meat you find in grocery stores (like fake "chikun", textured vegetable protein, tofu). There are a lot of soup and smoothie recipes that don't include processed things, but I bought this book for entree ideas (who the heck needs help making smoothies clean and vegetarian??). Unfortunately a lot of the entrees are not clean, so this book really wasn't very helpful. I wouldn't have bought it if I had known the recipes weren't really clean.... that was kind of the point.
Very bland. Chili recipe that's actually marinara. Proportions seem WAY off. 11 Jan. 2015
By J. Glynn - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Perhaps I'm being too harsh, but so far the recipes I've made are not good. Shame on me for not reading ingredients ahead of time, but when I went to make the "chili", I realized there is no chili powder included at all. There is Italian seasoning and cayenne. So you end up with a very spicy marinara.

I agree with another reviewer that the proportions are way off. For the above chili I purchased the 4 types of beans recommended at 15 oz each and soaked them overnight. The gigantic amount of beans that resulted is comical. I could not fit but less than half of them in my slow cooker, and once all other ingredients were added, it filled the slow cooker.....and I didn't even put in the tofu! So I ended up with a bizarre mix of beans in marinara sauce and a freezer with a large container of mixed, soaked beans.

I cut the granola recipe in half and it still made a ton and had proportionally way too many sunflower seeds. It tastes eh, okay. I am glad I got this book from the library instead of purchasing. I'm supposed to make risotto today, and now I'm questioning the sanity of that, as it uses long grain brown rice instead of arborio and there is no cheese in the recipe at all. I have a feeling I'm in for another bizarre, bland dish.
You could be a cook yet! 2 Dec. 2013

It's a good reference but I noticed that if you are patient with the internet (as you must have been with finding this book) then you can find all the same things through internet references as you would with this book. For free. But if you are like me and like all of what you need in one place, then get this book.
