There are hundreds of "how to manage" books about - they rarely say anything ground-breakingly new. However, the good ones will paint old messages in a new way, and allow breakthroughs in understanding, and perhaps a shift in perspective. "Everything I need to know..." does just that. It reframes what can seem like an incredibly complex and frustrating discipline to something more manageable and even logical. It does so with great humour - putting yourself in Buzz Lightyear's shoes for a moment as a manager can transform a problem immeasureably!

Highly recommended - a "Who moved my cheese" for the Naughties.

This is the best book on being a manager I have ever read. It is so relevant it blew me away. The author's sharp observations of human behaviour in the office I have experienced time after time with my own team. It really put things into perspective and is a great refresher to hone your skills - especially for the established manager. After over ten years of managing people myself, I found it a very useful guide through the mine-field of human behaviour at work. The originality in linking the actions of children to adults and vice-versa is so real and evident I see things from a new perspective at work now. Many of the situations described also brought back memories of one's own childhood - so there is a nostalgia factor here too! It is also very witty, with lots of anecdotal examples that really bring it to life - you have been in that situation yourself at work - and am sure with your kids if you have them. A well written, very enjoyable take on a subject that we all have a vested interest in. A must for all prospective and current managers.

Great book. I thoroughly recommend it; very read-able! It makes good, relevant points in an 'accessible' way. I have bought several copies and given them away - Brings the theory into every day practice.. well done Ian Durston!
