Book Description

Using only fresh produce and a balanced mix of fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, herbs, fish, poultry and occasionally meat, Lebanese food has the reputation of being amongst the healthiest in the world.

This book includes a wide variety of dishes from Lebanese cuisine, including the well known and delicious Hummus, Baba Ghanouj and Tabouleh through to the most authentic and traditional recipes from the rural mountains and bustling cities along the Mediterranean coast. An emphasis on vegetables and pulses means that many recipes are vegetarian friendly as well as being simple, healthy and affordable. You will discover how to turn a few ingredients into a very tasty meal.

More About the Author

Mona Hamadeh was born and grew up in the Chouf Mountains in the south east of the Lebanon. She moved to England, where she met her husband and devoted her life to bringing up five children. Mona always remained passionate about Lebanon and its food however, so she continued cooking Lebanese dishes where her family grew up on this healthy tasty diet. Now they are following their mum's example by bringing up their own kids on Lebanese food. She always enjoyed cooking for friends and family both in the UK and Lebanon, spending hours sharing a feast together.
Mona was not a chef nor even worked in any restaurants but taught many classes of Lebanese cookery for several years where she was constantly asked to write a book and share her recipes. She began her love of cooking at a very young age where she always liked to observe her mother and grandmother cooking the best, traditional Lebanese food.
Finally she decided to write Everyday Lebanese Cooking, by sharing the most traditional, authentic recipes from the rural mountains and cities along the Mediterranean coast of Lebanon.
Now, Mona lives half the year in Lebanon and returns to the UK to spend time with her children and most of all to enjoy her grandchildren.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyday Lebanese Cooking. 14 May 2013
Format:Paperback
This is an excellent cookery book as it makes light work of making Lebanese food every day. The recipes are authentic and easy to prepare. This book is set out in a very simple way, showing clear photographs of the finished dish. The recipes are written with bullet points and it's easy to read each step clearly and see where you are in the recipe. I've many other Middle-Eastern cookery books with wonderful recipes, but they're not all as clearly set out as in Mona's book.
The Baba Ganouj was smoky and delicious, the Makhloota recipe is the best one I've tried for a rich thick bean soup which is lovely on a cold winter's day, and the Djaj be Hamoud takes a few simple ingredients- chicken, potatoes and lemons and turns them into a dish fit for a party. There's a good selection of vegetable and salad dishes too. My family enjoyed the fresh flavours of Mona's Fattoush, where crispy bread meets fresh salad and sharp pomegranate seeds. This little book is full of the secrets of Lebanese homemade food, not to mention interesting dessert recipes like my favourite Nammoura that aren't too complicated, and most of the ingredients are easy to track down.
When I first saw this cookery book, I thought : "Not another Lebanese cookery book?" I'm delighted with Everyday Lebanese Cooking and rank it among my favourite cookery books. Five Stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring and interesting recipes 28 Mar. 2013
By Linzi29
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I really enjoy Lebanese food but I assumed it would be time consuming and really difficult- but with this inspiring book I really felt like I wanted to get cooking straight away and have made a few of the dishes; Chicken with Rice and Nuts and Lamb and Aubergine bake are two family favourites. There is a picture for every dish which I think is important and the recipes are written out very clearly. Fantastic book, would recommend to all!

5.0 out of 5 stars the best lebanese cookbook ever 2 Mar. 2013
By nisma
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I have only one word to describe this book, and that is
WOW
Over the years I have bought loads of lebanese cookbooks and most of them if nearly all have disappointed hugely.
When I came across this book, and read the reviews I thought I would give it a try,and I'm so glad I did. The recipes are delicious to eat ,easy to follow and the quantities and method works really well. This is lebanese home cooking at its best and this is the food I remember eating with family and friends over the years
I have been literally using this book everyday since I got it,and I can see myself happily using it for the rest of my life.
Thank you Mona for bringing out (finally) a lebanese cookbook which easy to use, accessible and is true reflection of lebanese family food.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really good recipe book 6 Feb. 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
A pleasing sized book, attractive to look at and easy to read.
The pages are well set out with a short description of the dish, the ingredients listed on one side with a clearly written recipe.
Each recipe has a full colour photo showing how the dish should look, which is helpful when the dish is new to you. . .they look really appetising too!
I received my copy two days ago and have already cooked some of the dishes, which were delicious. The Falafel were enjoyed by guests, and the Karnabeet Ma Tahini made an interesting change as a cauliflower dish. Batata be Flefleh next!
A good buy if you want to give your friends something different to eat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book 1 Feb. 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I have lots of Middle Eastern Cook books as I cook a lot of Middle eastern food even though I am not from the Middle East. I am actually from the West Indies. I love Middle Eastern food. I have found that this book is very well written and simple to follow. It is excellent for me as it gives very clear instructions and is better than some of my other Middle Eastern cook books that assumes the reader is familiar with Middle Eastern cooking and leaves out vital instructions for example how long to cook things for and sometimes the steps are not clear. This book is fantastic and I think that any novice cook of Middle Eastern cuisine would find this book an absolute gem. Great purchase and I have enjoyed cooking many of the recipes and of course eating them afterwards; very tasty.
