Album Description
This the third album from vocalist Louise Gibbs on 33 Jazz features her alongside the remarkable American pianist Kirk Lightsey. Exploring in depth the standard songbook repertoire, the duo produces a set that is both inspiring and entertaining. Both musicians are committed to improvisation and spontaneity and the album consists entirely of first takes - apart from the beautiful false start on "Spring is Here" - on which Kirk launches into an amazing and unexpected intro to the tune and which the producers insisted be left on the finished album.
Louise Gibbs is a singer, jazz improviser and composer. It has been said of her bebop-inspired style: "She can turn a hackneyed jazz standard into a newly-imagined composition...and takes musical risks...as expressive as any horn player whether the tune's by Kenny Wheeler or Rodgers & Hart"
Kirk Lightsey from Detroit and now residing in Paris, is a pianist of immense accomplishment and versatility who has worked with scores of major jazz stars, including Yusef Lateef, Bobby Hutcherson, Freddie Hubbard, Curtis Fuller, Harold Land, Kenny Burrell, Chet Baker, Dexter Gordon, James Moody, Clifford Jordan, Benny Golson and Don Cherry.
