Product Description

Review

"The attraction of Herriot's ever popular memoirs of a country vet...is their alternating highs and lows, humour and pathos, and gripping anecdotes about delivering lambs, grumpy farmers, hypochondriac pet-owners, stroppy cows and blunt Yorkshire characters. And, of course, there's a powerful nostalgia element in these stories about our green and pleasant land in the day before the ravages of ribbon development."--Daily Mail

"On original release in the 1970s, James Herriot's insights into the life of a working vet were so popular and enchanting to readers that the area of the Yorkshire Dales in which he practised became known as 'James Herriot country'."
--Yorkshire Ridings magazine

Just Brilliant 24 Dec. 2014
By Tim - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Fantastic as always, I have read the majority of this brilliant writer and his life as a vet in some of the most demanding conditions one could imagine. The subtle humour he adds to his stories are just hilarious and I have never been disappointed with any of his numerous books I have read.

If you haven't ever read one of his books, do yourself a favour and you will find that you can picture yourself there with him in the freezing stables in the middle of the night trying to help a cow give birth, and many other stories, some sad, but most just wonderfully human if that make sense.

He paints a beautiful scenery of the beautiful green, mountainous land, it is writing at it's best.
J. Herriot's Every Living Thing 11 May 2014

Whoever loves Herriot stories will enjoy this book. It fills the gap of the later years and his travels outside Darrowby were fascinating, funny, and will touch a chord in the heart of anybody who travels outside his/her familiar surroundings. It is always refreshing to read an author who does not consider himself a "superman" in his profession, and writes about his bumblings with a great sense of humor.
I recommend this book to anybody and everybody.
Always a good escape to a quieter time 6 Jan. 2014

As his son said, his books are more about people than they are about animals, as such are touching, humorous and thoughtful.
