Product Description

Title: Every Little Thing (La Moindre des choses) A film by Nicolas Philibert France 1997

The protagonists in Nicolas Philibert's documentary 'Every Little Thing' are the patients and staff at the La Borde psychiatric clinic in France. Each summer they perform a play on a stage set in the grounds of La Borde. The film charts the rehearsals for the play and allows the viewer a glimpse at life in one of the world's most highly regarded psychiatric instituions.

Philibert , director of the hugely acclaimed 'Etre et avoir', once again finds beauty and wonder in the everyday. In focussing on the preparations for the play he delicately celebrates the work of La Borde, and makes us ask ourselves questions about the process of rehabilitation and the power of art to heal.

From the Contributor

" An intimate, profoundly sympathetic and admirably honest look at life in an institution. Philibert is a master film-maker and his work should not be missed by anyone who takes contemporary cinema at all seriously" Geoff Andrew

A joy to watch. 12 Feb. 2013

I recently saw the same producer's documentary, "To Be and to Have" and liked it so much that I thought I'd check this out. I liked it even better. It takes place in the Loire Valley, in an old chateau, which is an asylum for a group of people with multiple mental handicaps. This movies shows them preparing for their annual musical presentation and also gives the viewer a peek into their everyday lives. It is gentle and sympathetic and easy to watch.

I love France, listening to French, watching very French characters. But this was too slow-moving and hard to track even for me, gotta confess.
but good directing makes this film interesting 19 April 2015

Although a somewhat depressing topic, but good directing makes this film interesting. Definitely not my genre.
