CD Description
By all accounts, Elvis Presley was fanatical about Christmas. Always generous with friends, Presley enjoyed the excuse to lavish those around him with cars, jewellry, and other expensive gifts. The holiday was particularly meaningful to him in his early years, when he could share it with his motherGladys, and then later with the arrival of his daughter Lisa Marie. It is no surprise, then, that Presley recorded Christmas material on several occasions throughout his career.
IF EVERY DAY WAS LIKE CHRISTMAS compiles all of Elvis Presley's Christmas recordings on a single disc. Included are all the Christmas songs from the 1957 LP ELVIS' CHRISTMAS ALBUM (the four gospel songs that appeared on the original albumare not, however, included on this disc), the 1966 single that serves as the title track to this collection, and the 1971 album ELVIS SINGS THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF CHRISTMAS. All are very good, but Elvis' first effort was his best. ELVIS' CHRISTMAS ALBUM has rightly joined the pantheon of truly classic Christmas albums. Every track is top-flight, with particular praise due to the raunchy "Santa Claus is Back in Town"and Elvis' take on "White Christmas", the latter strongly based on Clyde McPhatter's version.
