5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding series!, 8 Aug 2006
By Shelley (London, UK) - See all my reviews
I tuned into the pilot of Everwood and was instantly hooked. This is a gentle, thought-provoking series surrounding a world-renowned brain surgeon, suddenly widowed and faced with the daunting prospect of raising his 2 children, aged 8 and 14, alone. They leave the bright city New York lights for a rural town and Dr. Andy Brown sets up as one of the town's GPs. What follows is a journey of discovery for all the main characters, including the viewer, as they tackle the trials and tribulations of life, the every day dilemmas it poses and the complexities of the relationships they form with each other and the people they meet.

The acting is simply superb. The warmth conveyed by the entire cast is a delight and they quickly have you laughing at some of the antics and sobbing at some of the events - you have become a part of the Everwood community. This is how dramas should be - well written, well acted, well delivered. The series is modern and isn't afraid to tackle issues. It will leave you thinking about similar situations in your own life.

In years to come, Everwood (or Our New Life in Everwood to give it the UK title, not sure why they lengthened the name for UK audiences) will be a series I will look back on very fondly and always regret that it had to come to an end, whenever that will be. I want it to go on forever and to believe that a place such as Everwood, with all its characters, really exists. In my heart, it certainly does.

4.0 out of 5 stars Engrossing, 31 Dec 2004
By A Customer
When I first saw this series it seemed like another one of many. But it really began to draw me in. Excellent acting and story lines that contain with real honesty and genuine feeling. It deals with teenage romance, adult loss, the alienation of parents and their children and has many funny and heartbreaking moments.
I can't wait for it to be released on region 2 DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unmissable., 9 Jan 2006
If you enjoyed the sentimental feel good family tv shows like 'The Waltons' and 'Little House on the Prairie', then you will love this. It is centred around a high flying New York brain surgeon, whose wife is killed in a car crash, and he is left to bring up his son and daughter. He moves them to a quiet town in Colorado and sets up a free GP practice, believing it to be what his wife would have wanted. Unfortunately his relationship with his son is fragile and the show focuses on this fragility whilst they work their way to an understanding and acceptance of one another.
There's romance, sadness but also laughter, particuarly the relationship between the two Doctors in Everwood. This is such a superbly written show, exceptionally well acted, and set amongst some of the most beautiful mountains and lakes. The characters are fabulous and leave you caring about what happens to them next. My kids and husband are as addicted to it as I am, even my 22 month old who as soon as she hears the theme tune asks for "more"!!!!.
This really is a 'comfortable' programme, something that admittedly requires little deduction and analysis, but will certainly leave you wanting more.
