5.0 out of 5 stars
How an expansion should be, 6 Nov 2006
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I have been Beta testing this new expansion, and with the NDA now lifted its time to let you know what this is like.
Well, this new expansion is a like a breath of fresh air into Everquest 2. Its a huge addition to the EQ2 world, introducing an entire new continent, and a new race (the Fae). It also offers new ways to advance, over three hundred new quests, new mobs to fight, a new city, new landscapes and new animations.
Set on the land of Faydwer, which is occupied by the Fae (a Fairy race) you must fight for control of your home land, exploring the lands around you. From clockwork soldiers to kobolds, this brings the EQ back to EQ2.
For old EQ players, this will bring back alot of memories, as most of the maps are based on the original Everquest maps, and many features have been brought over, including portals, druid rings etc.
For those who are only familiar with the newer games like Warcraft, this expansion will also seem quite familiar, with boats taking you to the new lands, bright colourful lands and new mounts.
This new pack is also very solo friendly, and allows you to start a new character using the new race and level it up to 70 entirely through the new lands, virtually solo if you want to (although it will take a while!).
Many things that EQ2 players have been asking for have been included here, with 50 more AA levels (Alternative Advancement), Gods, new Mounts and Mount animation, new equipment and of course, finally, designable cloaks (very similar to WoW's guild tabards).
All in all this offers something for everyone, and almost doubles the size of the original game. It really offers something to be excited about for new and old players, and could allow EQ2 to actually rival newer games like Vanguard and LOTRO. Also, with this boxed version you get the original game, all of its expansions, and some fun in game items (including a robot pet).
Finally, for those thinking this game is getting a little old, the original was "future proofed" which means PC's are just now getting to the stage of being able to play it well, so the graphics are looking stunning. And with this expansion they have finally fixed the UI/Memory bug, so you actually get a decent framerate at high settings.
With the new PvP servers, this also offers something to those who like to risk it all against real people. All in all, this is well worth getting if you are a fan of MMO's, or if you are new to genre.

Lots of fun!, 10 Nov 2006
Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
I've been testing the beta like the other 2 reviewers and things are looking fantastic.
With new ways to 'tweak' your character and class and make him/her more individual thanks to a whole new set of Achievments...
The 4 main zones of this expansion are HUGE taking 30min on a fast horse to get from one side to the other with all the twists and turns and obstacles.
The new race, the Fae(cutesy ickle fairy folk) are adorable, with pleanty of options for getting your very own 'look.' Seeing a Fae on horseback is hilarious!! This new race has as great a potential as the existing ones but with thier own slant on things with thier featherfall allowing them to leap from great heights and float gently to the ground.
This game is ideal for the person just wanting to 'dip in' for an hour here and there or invest hours with a group of fellow adventurers to go battle evil or each other if you choose PvP. There are now 3 cities to choose from, though not every race can start from any city.
Having played this game from the start, (it's just had it's 2nd birthday) I've seen many changes occur mostly positive, and have enjoyed many hours of adventure with fellow UK residents as well other players from all over the world, Australia, US, China, Japan, all over Europe, Korea, I even grouped with someone from Russia once!
This is a game ideal from early teens and well beyond. And can be played as a family affair. We have 2 accounts and I regualrly play with my partner or my daughter.
This game is pay to play, but with the game constantly evolving, and growing, the money is well invested back into the game.
Personally, with the growing lack of quality tv(including pay tv), and the fact that many games like with Xbox and the others you can complete in a day or so, often less, this is a game that goes on and on and will keep your interest for a very long time.
I hope you find this game as irresistable as I do at times!
My recommendation as far as internet connection goes, broadband or VERY VERY good dial-up. And at least 750 meg of ram in your pc so you can enjoy the eye candy, there's a lot of if!

Great addition to the EQ2 universe, 5 Nov 2006
Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
The beta is very promising. The zones are *very* big, giving a variety of choices where you want to go to get that next level. Yes, that means that this expansion gives you a chance to try it no matter what level you are. It sticks with the current everquest lore, and adds to it. The gods are back! The gnome city ak'anon has been taken over by the ruthless clock workers, whom have declared its new name; Klak'anon, do not stand for this outrage and attempt to take it back for your gnome friends!
Lots of new additions to guilds, new capes that you can wear to show your allegiance to your guild! Aswell as this there are new "armour sets" which let you have bonuses from having the full set of armour.
The only bad thing really is the solo play, granted it will be alot more fun with lots of places to explore, but its not as fun as working in a team with your friends!
A good addition to the EQ2 universe indeed, massive zones and new personal items, what more could you want?
