Fun:
I've been playing Everquest 2 (or EQ2 as its known) for 1 1/2 years now and definitely can recommend it. To start with I just started playing it when I got bored of WoW as that game has a "end game only" approach to the game design so you kind of are limited on what to do (The theme park model of game).

Whereas EQ2 is more of a sandbox game where you jump into a world that is vast and explore and adventure where you feel lead where you can (using the mentoring feature) adventure anywhere in the world and still have a challenge.

Even saying that there is a end game similar to WoW with raiding and dungeons, but instead of the philosophy of everything is accessible to everyone that WoW went with in the latest expansion, EQ2 has gone with a large amount of end game content at various difficulty levels (WoW used to have this approach in the successful Burning crusade expansion which I really did enjoy, but in WoW once you level past something it becomes trivial and too easy to complete).

Personally I love this, while I'm not the greatest player out there I was getting just bored of the easy mode of WoW and this game convinced me to rest my WoW subscription. The graphics are great with detailed characters, beautiful scenery and fluid motion captured animations, this is despite the age of the game mainly because it was originally written to run on a machine of the future.

And also because the game is going through a large revamp, this expansion does not actually offer much for a new player, but since it includes all the previous expansions and the main game its excellent value for money. For experienced level 50+ players though this expansion adds in a series of much harder quests, dungeons and raids to test your mettle on. Got to love the classic roof closing in on you in one of the dungeon encounters ;)

The game was at the point this was launched quietly advancing along while SOE were publishing free realms and other games, but recently the development team has been beefed up, the graphics engine is getting major improvements and they're polishing the game up for new players for the new February expansion. All in all I can recommend it as a good time to get involved in the Everquest universe.

Fun:
this expansion doesnt really bring much excitement to the game. although it encourages grouping more than the last couple which is to my taste. cant pick any real faults with the expansion, i was torn between 3 and 4 stars

Fun:
as an expansion the new content is ok although some of the new ideas seems to point to the fact that soe are trying to keep players to stay on.
I've recently quit after almost 5 years of play, reasons being server population has dropped and getting groups can be hard sometimes now as well as the subs has gone right up and the main reason is when and if you get a problem it's 50 50 if you get it sorted some get no troubles other get nothing but! as soe have repeatedly failed to sort mine although I have put it in simple terms and they have just fobbed me off. players come and go some are good people others are quite nasty so I think soe have lost their way with keeping players happy if yout new to mmo then give it a try! you may be lucky and have no problems at all and it's still better than some of the others that are on the market atm! cough wo cough! graphics are still great and it does have good moments but soe has lost it when it comes to real support and keeping paying players happy.
