A book giving accounts of nightmare dating scenarios sounds like entertaining reading matter, both for single people hoping to avoid similar encounters, and smug married people. However, if you are expecting a cosy night in with this book you are likely to be sadly disappointed. For a start the book is seriously lacking in humour. For some reason, Duddridge appears to feel that prefixing every other word with 'psycho'will make the book funny. Perhaps this would work if the target reader was school aged, but somehow I cannot imagine this is the case. The 'psycho' star signs chapter was particularly excrutiating (predictably dull horocopes for PsychoAries, PsychoTaurus, PsychoGemini...I think you get the idea.) However, the chapter that made the most uncomfortable reading was all about 'psycho' illnesses. Within this section, conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder, OCD and anxiety are dismissed simply as laughable traits of the 'psycho'. As current statistics estimate that 1 person in every 4 will experience spme sort of mental health problem in their lifetime, there will be very few people reading this book who haven't been affected in some way by the mental health issue of themselves or a friend or relative. For this reason I imagine that this chapter will raise very few laughs and may actually cause some offence. Overall, a terrifyingly dull and predictable book. Don't waste your money buying this book- you'd have a lot more fun going out on a nightmare date!
