Product Description

New York Times Best-Selling author Neil Gaiman and International recording artist Amanda Palmer release a 3-disc set, titled An Evening With Neil Gaiman & Amanda Palmer on November 19th. In 2011, Neil and Amanda, recently married, decided to tour the West Coast, and perform together for six nights, to meet each other''s fans and answer questions from the audience. Requests for the shows to be recorded resulted in their first crowdfunding experiment. They went to Kickstarter to raise the money, made 666% more than they asked for, and so were able, in Spring 2012, to release a 3 CD set, bonus CDs and digital material to their 3873 backers. Previously unreleased to the general public, and culled from hours of live recordings, one CD features Gaiman and Palmer collaborations, such as Makin Whoopee and I Google You,. One CD is all Amanda Palmer, and marks the first time original live Amanda Palmer tracks Dear Old House Gaga, Palmer, Madonna: A Polemic Judy Blume and Do You Swear to Tell the Truth the Whole Truth and Nothing But the Truth So Help Your Black Ass have been made available to general public on CD. Gaimans solo CD includes several uncollected poems and stories, and his non-fiction account of a visit to the Oscars in The View From the Cheap Seats.

I have to confess this review will be a bit biased as I am a fan of both Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer. You are warned!

When this compilation was released I was delighted to be able to own something that was once only available to fans, those who had been part of the Kickstarter fund raising behind these shows. The chance to hear them in collaboration was well worth the money.

Firstly the album is beautifully packaged in a tri-fold card pack designed with a Victorian theme of silhouetted images of the performers. Secondly you get an enormous amount of material in what is a three CD set culled from their live shows, performed in the states back in 2011.

The album has been split into three distinct discs, One all about Neil, one all about Amanda and the last a collaboration of the two. Initially I thought the CDs would be one continual show from start to finish as performed, but the breaking down of the material into its presented format works really well. If you fancy a bit of Neil reading then disc one is the choice. A full sing along (or not) with Amanda, then go for disc three. It's easy peasy to fill your listening needs!

Amazon has the ability for you to listed to snippets of each track, but here is a generalised breakdown of what to expect from each disc is as a whole.

Disc One ......... is brimming full of Neil Gaiman reading some of his short stories and prose, each one is infused with his humour and will leave you satisfied. Although I did not enjoy the piece about Ray Bradbury unfortunately. The disc opens with 'My Last Landlady', a ghost story set in Brighton. It's a chilling tale which leaves a resonance and hooks you in for the rest of his offerings.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Should Read this and Buy this CD 21 Nov 2013
By Cassie Giauque - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
If you buy this not knowing really what to expect, and you don't like it, lay down at once, check your pulse, pinch your arm, and wiggle your toes to be sure you are still alive.

If you kind of like Neil Gaiman because he did a thing you liked once. You will like this.

If you kind of like Amanda Palmer because she did a cool stunt you respected once...you will like this.

If you like music and words....you will like this.

If you are a huge fan of Neil OR Amanda....you will LOVE this.

If you are a HUGE fan of BOTH...you might as well call in sick to work because friend, grab a bottle of wine and listen to this twice through in one sitting.

By Kim Hinkle - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I adore this journey. I laughed, I cried, I sang, I sighed... It's perfect. It's like staying in bed on a rainy day with a cup of tea, a book, and a record player. I didn't want it to end. So yeah, I guess I loved it. <3

5.0 out of 5 stars Two artists in one lovely collection 22 Nov 2013
By Lori Holden - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I'm a fan of both Neil's writing and Amanda's music. This is a really lovely collection of spoken word, music and conversation between two really amazing artists. It is a well put together selection that was curated by the artists picking the best of the best from their live sessions. Highly recommend.
