WARNING! Only for real music lovers or musicians, 22 Dec 2002
Ther are no electronic gadgets,no gimmicks,no dancing girls, no spectacular lighting, no prima-donnas, no posing - just four of the world's greatest musicians of their genre playing unbelievably together. This live concert was held in front of a very small audience, yet the band played as if there were a million people there. The music is crystal clear and every number is as good as the last. For sheer musical brilliance, Lee Ritenour's solo guitar work on Monterey is unbeatable and every note that Nathan East, the world's greatest electric bass player, played or sung (sounding more like George Benson than George Benson) is magical. Bob James on keyboards is electrifying and can do no wrong and Harvey Mason on drums is as intelligent a drummer as you are ever likely to hear. You may gather that I consider this DVD to be outstanding in every respect - there is absolutely nothing that I could find to criticise, except perhaps for the director fading the last track to bring up the credits. Inexcusable! If you are a lover of smooth jazz and are looking to watch 2 hours of sheer musical magic without any gimmicks, enabling you to watch the musicians perform as only they can, then this is the only DVD you will ever need.

An absolute must for any fan of great music., 23 Oct 2000

Fans of Fourplay will already know how brilliant they are but this video just takes their level of performance to another dimension. The video is shot in a small club in 1994 and the tracks are exclusively drawn from the bands' first two albums, Fourplay and Between The Sheets. The choice of tracks is superb, the highlights in my opinion being 'Moonjogger, Amoroso and Midnight Stroll. It is almost impossible to single out any of the musicians such is the performance of each. Lee Ritenour and Nathan East in particular stand out for their superb musicianship, I just can't think of two other artists who interact so well and prove on this video that they are true masters of their chosen instruments. The drum solo that opens Midnight Stroll just has to be seen to be believed! I knew Harvey Mason was a good drummer, but after seeing this I now know he is the absolute business! Don't hesitate to buy this video. It is also available on DVD. Whether you are a Fourplay fan or just enjoy seeing quality musicians jamming together, this is the video for you.
