More About the Author

For as long as she can remember, Katie MacAlister has loved reading. Growing up in a family where a weekly visit to the library was a given, Katie spent much of her time with her nose buried in a book. Despite her love for novels, she didn't think of writing them until she was contracted to write a non-fiction book about software. Since her editor refused to allow her to include either witty dialogue or love scenes in the software book, Katie swiftly resolved to switch to fiction, where she could indulge in world building, tormenting characters, and falling madly in love with all her heroes.

Two years after she started writing novels, Katie sold her first romance, Noble Intentions. More than thirty books later, her novels have been translated into numerous languages, been recorded as audiobooks, received several awards, and placed on the New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists. She also writes for the young adult audience as Katie Maxwell.

Katie lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband and dogs, and can often be found lurking around online.

I am a huge fan of Katie McAlister and she doesn't disappoint with this book. This is a book from the dark ones series so we are reunited with the dark brooding characters of her other novels.

The heroine of the novel is one miss samathan cosse who happens to be half elf with a handy talent to find missing objects, but after being thrown out of the Order of diviners she finds herself opening her own private investigation agency- well it's one way to pay the bills ;D

Paen, the dark one of the novel, needs Sam's help, because of a contract his father made with a demon his mother's soul is on the line unless he can find a fabled artefact known as the Jilin God in five days.

Paen is one of Sam's first clients and the only one that sets her elf sense tingling which means keeping their relationship professional is out of the question.
But Paen isn't looking for a relationship let alone the one woman that can restore his soul, but Sam isn't taking no for an answer, she'll prove she's his Beloved whether he likes it or not!

This book just keeps better the more times that you read it and is a definite must read, but don't worry if you haven't read any of her other dark ones this book is whole on it's own describing everything you need to know.
Smart, Sexy and Funny what else could you want?

Paen needs to find a statue and he needs to find it fast if he is going to prevent his mother from losing her soul to a demon. Sam is a half elf and has just opened a private investigation agency with her cousin Clare, she is a failed diviner but she is good at finding things. When Paen turns to Sam for help finding the statue they are both drawn to each other. Sam is convinced that she is Paen's Beloved but that is the last thing Paen is interested in - he thinks he is perfectly happy without his soul and doesn't want to be tied to a Beloved for eternity.

Although Even Vampires Get the Blues is the fourth book in Katie MacAlister's Dark Ones series it can easily be read as a stand alone story because there is no cross over of characters from previous books. This is a series of fun, light hearted paranormal romances that are full of humour and never fail to make me laugh out loud. It's been quite a while since I read the first 3 books in the series but I'm determined to start working my way through some of those series that have been sitting on my shelves waiting for me to get to them.

Paen is a vampire with commitment issues and it was quite amusing to watch him trying to convince everyone that he really didn't want his soul back, he was happy to agree to exploring the attraction between him and Sam though. Sam was a likable character but there were a few things I figured out ages before she did, I really wanted to see her use her brains a bit more considering she was supposed to be making a living out of being a PI. I also felt she forgave Paen far to easily and wanted to see her make him work at getting her back but as this is a light romance I'm willing to forgive that.

Good book. I wasn't terribly impressed with the first two but the next two have both been good.
This book took a very different point of view. The vampire was not eager to find his Beloved. He didn't want to be tied to someone in the way Dark Ones are to their Beloveds. Didn't want to think that he needed a woman to "complete" him. It was interesting and well done.
The only disgruntlement I had was that she let him off too easy at the end. It felt just a little like someone might have been pointing to their watch and telling Mrs. MacAlister to "wrap it up".
Anyway, it was still good and as usual, I'm off to the next!

gotta say I've been spoilt by this writer, I didn't like the hero in this book - and I thought he forgiven by the girl far too easily -this book isn't a patch on her previous vampire ones. I'm noticed that, some writers seen to get a bit sloppy with their writing, I hope the next book is back up to standard, cos this one was disappointing.
