Product Description

Review

Wayne Travis and his father Rodney are football crazy but when Rodney's bad knee stops him playing one week, young Wayne steps up to the mark and the team go on to claim victory after victory. Could this oddball team have what it takes to make it to the cup final? (Junior )

Newly confident readers will welcome the reissue of Michael Rosen's comical story about a hotchpotch local team that - more by luck than judgment - ends up playing in the FA Cup final. The ups and downs of everyday life in multiracial Hackney, London, are deftly interwoven into the stuff of football fantasies, with plenty of jokes along the way. Full colour illustrations and a narrative told partly in speech bubbles make this lively book particularly successful with older, reluctant readers. (Guardian )

Product Description

A winner from the children's laureate, popular poet and performer Michael Rosen – a must for all football fans. A hilarious full colour comic picture book about a football team. Wayne Travis and his mates may not be the greatest footballers in the world but the happy, multi-cultural team of all ages, both sexes and every permutation of colour and faith, certainly knows how to enjoy the great game. But when they are drawn in the first round of the F.A. Cup, things suddenly start to get serious.

4.0 out of 5 stars Even Stevens world, 26 April 2002
By A Customer
Wayne Travis loves football. His team plays every saturday morning on the astroturf behind the local supermarket.
But when they are drawn in the first round of the F.A. Cup,things suddenly start to get serious.
This book is suitable for children who like football at a young age. I would recommend it to children under 12 years old.

An incredibly funny book, every time I read it, it makes me laugh out loud, especially when my mum does the funny accents for the characters! By Ashley (football anorak)Mitchell.
