Product Description

Rob Haigh, a.k.a. Omni Trio, is one of drum & bass's most influential producers. A veteran of the scene, prior to Even Angels Cast Shadows, productions such as Renegade Snares and Trippin' on Broken Beats inspired many budding switch doctors who have gone on to become big names. This album is the producer's fifth and stays true to his love of tough, floor-carved breaks coupled with deep, ethereal ambience. Famously, Haigh dislikes the notion of live instrumentation in electronic music, believing that it should be totally computer-generated. If this seems strange at first, his compositions have consistently revealed the logic of his view, and this latest album is no exception. A master of building up emotive soundscapes and searing beat formations through competent keyboard skills and intricate programming / sampling techniques, Haigh once again presents us with drum & bass redolent of the misty-eyed idealism and sonic futurism so prevalent back in the day but which still packs a punch and sounds utterly up to date. Juxtaposing the languid with the sanguine, the soulful with the distant, Even Angels is further confirmation that Haigh is a true musical maverick who can wring warm soul from technology like no other drum & bass producer around. --Paul Sullivan

5.0 out of 5 stars return to haunted science form 27 July 2001
By A Customer
this is omni trio restored to there (or his)ambient fineness, if you liked haunted science, you'll love this, a beautiful progression of lovely hard drun n bass beats with very chilled ambient on top of it. Forget the crunchyness of skeleton keys this is beautiful. Come down to it, Come up to it...its nice. If you don't own anything by omni trio, its a good start, possibly just behind music for the next millenium in my book, but maybe thats nostalgia.

As a late comer to d'n'b, I'm always on the lookout for CD'S i missed. This is brilliant. If you like LTJ Bukem, Earth series and the whole mellow/ambient/spacey side buy this. You' ll love it. Me, I can't stop listening.

5.0 out of 5 stars For crying out loud.... 21 Sep 2002
By "bucknutty" - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Alright, people are trying to categorize Omni Trio (particularly this album) as something it's not. (For crying out loud, most of the other reviewers couldn't even spell!) It's not jungle and it's not drum and bass- well kinda- it's atmospheric drum and bass. Ambient. Jazzy. Lush. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, check out some cd's by Blame, Future Engineers or LTJ Bukem. I thoroughly enjoyed this album, particularly track 3 (Higher Ground). True, this is not enjoyed by those of you looking for hard d & b or jungle; check out Usual Suspects or Ed Rush to fulfill that fix. However, if you are looking for the future of electronic music, look no further.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD 29 Aug 2004

This is a great CD, Clean background drum n bass with strong synths that's still reasonably paced. First Contact & Higher Ground are stand out tracks.
5.0 out of 5 stars Omni Trio - Even Angels Cast Shadows 28 Feb 2011
By scoundrel - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
The Omni Trio has always had a knack for making beats and loops come together in a gorgeous way, and his 5th full-length proves no different. It is, if anything, a furthering of his earlier album. The wavering synths and thundering drums of "Diffusion Loops" deliver all the digital emotion you'd need, and the piano line and more subdued rhythm of "Higher Ground" continues the trend. By the time the deep and wobbly "First Contact" comes around, you'll wonder if the man can do no wrong. Well, he doesn't; there aren't any egregious missteps on this album. Instead, it's filled with smooth production and rolling loops that mesh impeccably. Although a few later tracks are less successful at integration ("Lucid", "Kashmir"), but the return to form on "Kinetic" quickly covers over any bumps. A remarkably accomplished album.

this guy is VERY IN TUNE. i didn't rate it on first listen, because i didn't think there were any standout tracks. this is the beauty of it. it is one of the few albums that you can put on and play the whole way though, listen over and over, and it just gets better every time. it's like, i didn't think he had many new sounds or a new style, but what omni had done is totally perfected his craft.
other people who haven't rated this so high, were probably looking for a bangin dnb album. this album has no energy. it's ambient, and it's beautiful (and in my opinion, more than made up for byte size life, which was a flop after hanted science, and all the brilliant 12" he's done).
probably would rate 4.5........
now forget this hero & get with the zero.

3.0 out of 5 stars First contact might be misleading 27 Jun 2002
By Joel Pompi - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
So any way, I liked the tune first contact a bit, It showed up on a couple Moving Shadow comps and of course it is on the GTA 3 game. My problem is this, mixed in with the other songs on this realese it looses some of it's appeal. don't get me wrong there are some interesting sounds on this disc, but the beats don't hit me as hard as I would like. I like mellow music as well as the abbrasive stuff, but to sum it all up This is a mellow roller.(if that makes any sence). I am sure I will grow quite fond of this album. It just isn't my favorite right now.
