5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely fantastic. 17 Sep 2013
By Thomas
I've never really been one for reading, but I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed this book! After playing the games Dust 514 and EVE Online, I noticed this book at a local store, and decided to take a chance. I started reading it during my ride home, and didn't set it down until I realised I'd missed dinner! I can't really say much without spoiling it, but the story is utterly captivating. I mean it just takes you so deeply into the EVE universe like never before.

This book isn't just for fans of the games either. After I finished it, I took it to my mother who knew nothing about EVE. I insisted that she give it a try. After reading it herself, she's recommended it to all of her friends, describing it as "a thrilling story that will not disappoint".

I enjoyed this book so much in fact, that I got in touch with the author to congratulate him on a job well done. If you buy this book and enjoy it as much as I do, I suggest you do the same. He is a heck of a nice guy, and a talented writer. Everyone likes to know their hard work is appreciated.

I know that this review has failed to say much about the book itself. But if your either a fan of EVE, or just open minded, I highly recommend giving this book a read. You won't regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hard going 15 Mar 2012
By Dil
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Somehow or the other I ended up reading this on the plane without having read any of the preceding books. The major themes and the story line are tantalisingly interesting - you feel like you would like to know more but I felt like I was missing a lot of context and background - presumably from earlier volumes. I am not certain which came first but I am a big fan of the Richard Morgan books and the Templar/Immortal concept felt conceptually like a direct lift from the Takeshi Kovacs trilogy - albeit in a very significantly different setting and context.

I suspect i would have enjoyed it a lot more had I read it in sequence - as it is I found it very hard going!

4.0 out of 5 stars An EVE Online book with a story (gasp)! 2 Mar 2012
Always difficult writing for a genre, knowing your reading market is restricted to start with.

Tony Gonzales takes a second stab in the EVE Online universe. I was very critical of his first outing "Empyrean Age". This time he gets it right. As he says himself in his acnowledgements

"Hopefully this time I've created characters that you would like to read more about"

I'm nodding in agreement. If you love playing EVE Online, and like me have had bitter experiences plowing/suffering through the various books that have been published in the past, I'd recommend giving this one a try.

3.0 out of 5 stars ok space adventure 12 Jun 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
An ok Sci Fi read that has a decent story with a very loose link to the characters in the first book and set in the background of the online space game EVE, which is not essential to understanding the storyline. The story moves between several main characters that interweave between the chapters until the climax of the book but I did loose track of the story at times if I had not read a chapter for a few days ( I'm a bedtime reader) as the story picks up from where it left off with the character in the previous chapter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another captivating EVE book 21 May 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
'Eve: Templar One' is an amazing book, it continues the story of 'Eve: The Empyrean Age' and it is jam-packed with enthralling characters, lots of suspense and nice science fiction concepts. Unlike 'Eve: The Empyrean Age', 'Eve: Templar One' is syntactically an semantically perfect.

Some say it is for a genre/restricted reading market but I doubt that, I have never played EVE online games but I think EVE books are one the best books in the Library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very much enjoyed this. 14 Mar 2014

As an EVE player I've tried the novels before but I found the other one I read very hard to get into.

This wasn't like that at all. It was enjoyable and felt like a lot more than "just a game tie-in".

I honestly have no idea if anyone who doesn't play EVE and/or Dust will find it readable, or whether there are too many references to game-related things. I didn't feel like that was the case since this is a story set on a different scale to the games.

If you like sci-fi with space battles, power-armour wearing soldiers, cloning and a fairly gritty universe, you might like this!
