Having just watched this movie I have to say, I am thoroughly impressed with this reboot. They've taken an excellent series and actually managed to vastly improve it straight across the board. The characters - particularly Shinji - are all more likeable. Shinji was a horrible whining annoyance in the original Evangelion, but now he has some redeeming qualities and strengths of character that enable the viewer to actually relate to him. Asuka is still a brilliant hot-head, but her insecurities have been heightened, making her more human. Rei has more warmth. And the new EVA pilot Mari is set to be an interesting character, although she isn't given much screen time in this installment. The EVAs and the Angels themselves even have a bit more personality, which is quite an accomplishment for great hulking monsters hell-bent on mass destruction. They all look stunning in their own ways too.

The battle sequences are fast-paced, often brutal, off-set or enhanced by an excellent musical score. The story itself has been condensed and rejigged superbly. I cannot compliment the writers / editors enough.

2.22 is more character-and-plot development than action, but there's still plenty of action to keep you entertained. If I had any complaints at all, it'd be that there's too much "fan service". As much as I love the movie it does make me feel a bit creepy when I'm watching a young cartoon girl having a naked rant. But if that's your thing, there's oodles of it as well.

Very much looking forward to 3.33.

Amazing 7 May 2011
By uzu
Format:Blu-ray
This film may not be out but I own the region 1 version of the funimation dub on blu ray and I have to say, it is one of the greatest movies ever created. The rebuild of evangelion movies were based of a famous tv series called neon genesis evangelion [ amazing show ] about a world were half the population was destroyed in the second impact caused by giant unstoppable monsters called angels and the series follows the exploits of three pilots of massive machines called evangelions in the fight against the angels and a mysterious organisation called SEELE. The second rebuild movie is were it completely detaches from the original series with brand new characters, new evas and new angels and the original characters have been tweeked to be more likeable.
I will not give spoilers but the ending will have you on the edge of your seat. The fights are bigger, the story is better, the characters are better, the effects are better and the film on a whole is one of the best films ever made [ till the next two are released together ] this film is worth every penny you own because it is a cinematic wonder.

Excellent! 30 July 2011
Format:DVD
An excellent next instalment to the ongoing Evangelion saga. I was a bit nonplussed with the original series and films, however the new retelling (beginning with Evangelion 1.11 You Are (Not) Alone) alters the story in many ways, some subtle and some major; and does so in brilliantly. Thoroughly enjoyed.

stunning
this work of art, in its entirity, although classed as a "rebuild" never ceases to amaze me. except the Shinji, his apathy irritates me, but thats not overly vital to the plot.

Stunning, a must for fans of the series.
Really adds to the original, beautiful animation as to be expected & great voice work (both English and Japanese). Can't wait for the third instalment!

Neon Genesis Evangelion 2.0 is outstanding. I saw this at the UK premiere and was blown away. The story is good, but it's not what shines here. What shines is the stunning visuals. Read more
