This research evaluated the effectiveness of courses run under the National Driver Improvement Scheme (NIDS), offered in some regions by the police as an alternative to court prosecution for driving without due care and attention. The study found evidence of a modest improvement in attitudes towards safe driving, but concluded that this is not strong enough to translate into safety gains on the road and recommended modification of the NIDS courses.
