5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have DVD for Eurovision fanatics, 15 April 2004
This review is from: Eurovision - Greatest Hits [DVD] (DVD)
This is a brilliant DVD containing videos of various Eurovision Entries from 1962 to 1993. It must be pointed out that apart from 3 songs, the videos are NOT the actual Eurovision performances but rather a mix of promo videos and clips from Dutch and German television programmes such as TopPop and Disco.
Note also that as this is a Dutch DVD it does have a bit of a bias towards Dutch entries.

The leaflet states that it apologises for the sound & quality of some of the clips mainly due to their age but apart from the Brotherhood of Man clip they all seemed to be very good quality to me. Sound Quality is in most parts excellent especially as all videos where performances are purely playback (ie miming) they have replaced the soundtrack with that from the official audio release. Live clips are kept as live and are therefore in Mono.

Here is a quick run through (details from the inlay booklet - country, year and comments from me):

1. Brotherhood Of Man - Save Your Kisses For Me - UK 1976. From TopPop. (This is the only video where the quality is less than excellent).

2. Alice & Battiato - I Treni De Tozeur - Italy 1984. Promo.

3. New Seekers - Beg Steal Or Borrow - UK 1972. The booklet states promo but it looks like it is from Disco '72.

4. Carola - Love Isn't Love - Sweden 1983. This is the English version of Främling performed on TopPop.

5. Johnny Logan - What's Another Year - Ireland 1980. TopPop.

6. Catherine Ferry - 1, 2, 3 - France 1976. TopPop.

7. Sandra - The Party's Over - Netherlands 1976. TopPop.

8. Conny Froboess - Zwei kleine Italiener - Germany 1962. AVRO Grand Gala Du Disque. (BLACK & WHITE)

9. Milk & Honey - Hallelujah - Israel 1979. English performance on Toppop.

10. Sandra & Andres - Als Het Om De Liefde Gaat - Netherlands 1972. This is a Promo recorded at the bottom of a windmill.

11. Shadows - Let Me Be The One - UK 1975. Promo.

12. Teach In - Dingedong - Netherlands 1975. This is the Dutch Language version performed on TopPop.

13. Johnny Logan - Hold Me Now - Ireland 1987. TopPop.

14. Frida Boccara - Un Jour Un Enfant - France 1969. TROS Special.

15. Cliff Richard - Power To All Friends - UK 1973. Disco '73.

16. Dafna - Zerak Sport - Israel 1992. Promo.

17. Sandra Kim - J'aime La Vie - Belgium 1986. Promo.

18. Ruth Jacott - Vrede - Netherlands 1993. Promo.

19. Maggie MacNeal - Amsterdam - Netherlands 1980. Promo shot on the canals of Amsterdam.

20. Dana - All Kinds of Everything - Ireland 1970. This is the Reprise performance from the 1970 Eurovision Song Contest with a very excited RTE narrator!

21. Vicky Leandros - Après Toi - Luxembourg 1972. This is the performance from the 1972 Eurovision Song Contest.

22. Anne Marie David - Tu Te Reconnaitras - Luxembourg 1973.
This is the performance from the 1973 Eurovision Song Contest.

23. Severine - Un Banc, Un Arbre, Une Rue - Monaco 1971. Hits A
Go Go.

24. Mouth & MacNeal - I See A Star - Netherlands 1974. Promo.

This is a definite must-have for all fans of the Eurovision Song Contest.

1.0 out of 5 stars UTTERLY DISAPPOINTING!, 16 May 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Eurovision - Greatest Hits [DVD] (DVD)
This DVD is utterly disappointing! We are huge Eurovision fans & were really looking forward to seeing some of the great performances from Eurovision contests from the past. This DVD does not have the actual Eurovision performances, except for a couple. Overall, we must warn fellow Eurovision fans that this is a waste of money. Please, someone involved in Eurovision, start producing & releasing quality DVD's of the great Eurovision performances! There is a huge market out there for such a series from devoted Eurovision fans!

1.0 out of 5 stars Eurovision - Greatest Hits DVD, 10 May 2004

After waiting months for this DVD to become available, I cannot tell you how deeply disappointing I found it to be.
It does appologise for the sound quality beforehand however, I found it to be amateurish in content and quality.
I have been a devoted Eurovision fan for 30 years and to know that this is the first DVD released..... well, words fail me!
Please, please AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
