Well here we go again with another jamboree of euro hopefulls all getting together just to show how far apart we really were in the first place!! Nevertheless, within the cocktail of 43 songs are the usual belting anthemic tracks brought to you again this year courtesy of Charlotte Perelli from Sweden ( a hot fave to take the euro crown for a second time) alongside a dance tune from Iceland which has all the hallmarks of a surefire summer euro hit in nightclubs from Dublin to Dubrovnic.Other high points this year include Switzerland with a fabulous slow anthemic intro which builds into a crowd pleasing thumper of a tune, Armenia with its drum banging conteporary dance tune with more than a whiff of the east to help it catch those all important eastern block votes and Andorras "steps" like song which should at least bring 12 points from Spain to ensure it keeps out of the 0 point category!!
The contest has its usual quota of hunky guys brought to you this year from Russia,Israel and Denmark and its share of sexy girls from Ukraine,Poland and the chicks from Germany.
From the sublime to the ridiculous this years contest does not disapoint on any level ( check out Ireland, Belgium,Bosnia and France in the "annual" strange category) but as we all know anything can happen on the night and i'm sure it will!!
This is a great compelation cd that really is worth a purchase,go on... you know you want to!!

a 2cd collection of all the songs from the 2008 eurovision song contest. 43 entries in total. a chanceto hear all the songs again. and these are worth listening to if you're a serious fan of the contest because on occasion a song can lose something in the performance and it comes over better on cd.

dics one contains:

andorra: a great song that alas didnt get to the final
albania: a decent song and a good singer
armenia: feisty up tempo stuff and very catchy
azerbaijan: a nice tune but you can barely hear the words
bosnia & herzegovenia: a song that had a very daft performance but without that it's quite good
belgium: a pleasant little number
bulgaria: funky music but not much of a song
belarus: decent pop music but nothing special
switzerland: a superb song that alas didnt reach the final
cyprus: pleasant but not memorable
czech republic: decent pop
germany: nice but a bit low key
denmark: over performed but a good pleasant song
estonia: a rather unfunny comedy one that makes no sense if you don't speak the language
spain: a catchy little ditty. you'll either like it or hate it
finland: good hard rock
france: pleasant but a bit unmemorable
united kingdom: not bad but nothing special
georgia: a nice song but it never quite grabs
greece: excellent catchy song
croatia: nice music although the rap section gets in the way

disc two:

hungary: pleasant but not desperately memorable ballad
ireland: this is the turkey! dreadfully unfunny attempt at humour
israel: good song and good singer
iceland: excellent rock music and very well sung
lithuania: amazingly strong singer. good tune
latvia: a fun shanty you'll either love or hate. I loved it.
moldova: nice but doesnt quite work
montenegro: okay song but nothing special
macedonia: a song that grows on you after a few listens
malta: lively stuff but the lyrics can barely be heard
netherlands: great singer good song
norway: same as above
poland: good song but not the strongest of singers
portugal: operatic stuff and powerful at points
romania: a nice duet for a good ballad
serbia: a good ballad
russia: a good song and an excellent singer. the contest winner
sweden: superb singer but a good rather than great song
slovenia: catchy tune and great singer. another that unfortunately didnt make the final
san marino: a decent tune but it doesnt stick in the mind
turkey: excellent rock
ukraine: strong song and brilliant singer

but that's just my opinion. if you want a record of the contest to cherish, then this will do the job

Because lets be honest, a lot of the artists/bands that have appeared (especially in recent years) are usually, whats the word..oh yes, rubbish! Well its nearly Eurovision time again and the same goes for this year. There are some pretty good tunes, and there's some very bad Eurotrash!

There are a lot of dance tracks this year which will be played throughout European clubs in the summer. The funny award goes to Iceland (have you seen the video?!) Then there's the real Eurotrash catagory, like Estonia's entry for example.

The kids will be voting for Latvia (you've got to admit the chorus is catchy - a bit 'Flogging Molly' style.) However the stand out track for me is Serbia's entry 'Oro' by Jelena Tomasevic feat. Bora Dugic, which I could listen to again and again.

The major disappointment comes in the form of the British Entry - Andy Abraham. I usually love the style of music he chooses to sing, even owning one of his albums. However his Eurovision entry does nothing for me, it is nothing new. So once again, Britain has no chance of winning Eurovision. Not just because of politics (which plays a massive part), but because it continues to choose rubbish songs.
