Product Description

Product Description

Law of the European Union is at the cutting edge of developments in this dynamic area of the law.  It explores the EU's constitutional and administrative law, as well as the major areas of substantive EU law.  Topics are extensively illustrated with decisions from the European Court of Justice and the General Court (the renamed Court of First Instance), encouraging students to consider real world applications of the principles of law.

From the Back Cover

Law of the European Union is at the forefront of developments in this dynamic area of law. It includes a detailed exploration and explanation of the Union’s constitutional, administrative and substantive law. At the outset there is an explanation of the legislative source of each area of Union law. This is complemented by extensive references to judgments of the Court of Justice of the European Union, where the Court has interpreted and applied these legislative sources.

All chapters have been fully updated and revised for the eighth edition to reflect the law as at 31 January 2010. The changes introduced by the Treaty of Lisbon (which came into force on 1 December 2009) have been fully incorporated throughout.

This textbook provides a wealth of learning support features, including:

·         Aims and objectives at the start of each chapter which help to focus learning

·         Diagrams and flowcharts which make it easier to understand some of the Union’s difficult concepts and procedures

·         Clearly distinguished case summaries which are easily recognisable and which can be differentiated from the surrounding commentary

·         Marginal cross-references which provide links to other material within the textbook, facilitating a deeper understanding of Union law

·         Summaries at the end of each chapter which help to reinforce understanding

·         Further reading lists at the end of each chapter to expand knowledge and understanding of Union law

·         Accessible two-colour text design with tabbed glossary and pedagogical features for quick reference

Two tables of equivalence are published at the beginning of this textbook. The first table relates to the renumbering of the Treaties made by the Treaty of Amsterdam (when it came into force on 1 May 1999), and the second relates to the renumbering made by the Treaty of Lisbon (when it came into force on 1 December 2009).

very well written book, useful for all EU law students. It repeats the same information in different parts, making it impossible to forget. I suggest it as core reading.

If you're doing EU at uni, then guys, get this book! It takes times to read but it's much better than the Chalmers EU law book.

Great detail, great analysis of cases and it tells you what they mean and how to apply the law for a problem question!
