Brilliant book 17 Jan 2011
Format:Paperback
I always go to the book before i read journals. It will always give you a general overview on the subject at hand. As for using it for indepth material, there are some sections that are well detailed but other more focused books will do this much better.

This is an incredibly detailed account of the development of Europe since 1870. In his book, Joll skips from one country to another in the space of a few lines, making detailed comparisons along the way. However, this can make the text hard to follow and it is certainly not a book for the faint-hearted - long, complex sentence after long, complex sentence does not make for a light read! Nevertheless, as a reference work this comes highly recommended.
