Product Description

Synopsis

"Europe by Eurail" has been the train traveller's one-stop source for visiting Europe's cities and countries by rail for more than thirty years. This comprehensive guide provides up-to-date information on fares, schedules, and pass options, as well as detailed information on more than ninety specific rail trips. Trips start from one of twenty-four base cities on the Continent - including Copenhagen, Lyon, and Milan - and contain all the details necessary to visit historic cities, romantic villages, and scenic hamlets. Three sample rail-tour itineraries combine several base cities and day excursions into fifteen-day rail-tour packages, complete with hotel recommendations and sightseeing options. Packed with practical information, step-by-step directions, and highlights on whereto go and what to see and do, this book helps takes the puzzle out of European rail travel. Extras include: practical travel tips on keeping costs down, travelling light, exchanging currency, and dealing with language differences; current photographs and detailed station and city maps; anecdotal and historical sidebars; and the latest information on the Chunnel and other Channel crossings.

Not Comprehensive 19 Feb 2006
By T. Hooper - Published on Amazon.com

I was a little disappointed with this guidebook. However, I could see that this book was meant for a different audience. My basic plan was to use long-distance trains for travel between major European cities. This book doesn't cover that type of travel. The aim of this book is to provide numerous day trips outside of major cities, so I was disappoint to find that there is almost no information about major cities, and only a little information about international train travel. Instead, you get a lot of information about minor sights outside of major cities. I would recommend this to those who are actually living in Europe. In other words, those who have seen everything in the city and are looking for something else to see. Also, backpackers who are spending months in Europe might find this useful when they run out of things to do. However, those who only have a week or two in Europe may not find this useful at all. Be sure that you're the intended audience before you buy this. If you'd like a book about international train travel in Europe, perhaps "Europe By Rail" would be a better choice.

Europe by Eurorail 23 July 2007
By Carl P. Hernandez - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
For the first time Euro-traveler by rail, this book can take the guess work out of the train system in Europe. However, after spending a month in Europe, and with hindsight, I'm not sure this book has enough Useable information that warrants its cost.

Many of the other euro-guide books will cover at least a small section on trains. Besides, there is not much to know about them in Europe other than where the train is located in the city you visit, and what time your train departs.

This book did help discuss a few of the limitations of the trains and it did help a little with rail travel. It barely eeks out 3 out of 5 stars.
