Product Description

Renton, son of scientists, and Eureka, a girl who can't live under the sun, are raised together when very young and become very attached to each other. One day, Eureka is taken away. Powerless at the time, Renton vows to rescue her. He enters the military and is soon assigned to the Independent Youths Unit 303 of the First Mobile Forces thanks to his exceptional performance alongside his Nirvash, a bio-mechanical armor/control system. Unknown to Renton, lies a plot to extinguish the alien invasion that is currently happening. It involves not only him, but Eureka too.

3.0 out of 5 stars A condensed re-imagining 3 Aug 2011
Format:DVD
First things first this movie isnt a follow on from the fantastic series. As a matter of fact alot of the time it feels like a 100% new story.

But the big question- is this a good thing or a bad thing... well when comparing to the quality of the excellent series... it's a bad thing.

The story- Like I said this story is rather different from the origional series, all of the characters still remain... although the roles they play in the story have been mixed around/ changed completely (and arguably the characters have suffered because of this). For those who have seen the origional series this can at times be confusing aswell. Despite this being a new story, it still feels like lots of episodes have been condensed to create a movie. It feels rushed in alot of places and the plot comes across as patchy, this only adds to the confusion really. Not good. The story still has some high points as some of the plot twists are great. It'll be especially surprising and probably better if you havnt seen the origional in this respect.

The animation- this is just as good as in the series. Some scenes have been recycled from the series as a matter of fact. None the less it's good to look at. The character/ mech designs, environments and just fightscenes in general are stunning. Once again though... because the story is so patchy alot of the animation loses its impact, battles/ fightscenes seem to come out of nowhere and because of this you arent really built up to enjoy them as much.

The music- Awesome. The same music used in the series. It can't be faulted. Because the run time is obviously less than the series there isnt too much re-used music either, so it doesnt get old. Making it basically flawless. I've only watched the dubb of this movie but I found that to be pretty good aswell.

On the whole- The music, animation and one particullar plot twist save this movie from being dire. Unfortunatly these things alone cannot make this movie stand out enough. The story is confusing and all over the place and fails to tie together some of the better moments in a way that makes them have any impact.

This movie is visually good and has one moment in it that will make you think that it was worth your money... however once the credits roll youll be in no hurry to watch this movie again. My advice, buy the series and enjoy that. Then if you find yourself craving a different look at the eureka 7 universe maybe think about getting this. But don't get your hopes up too high.

Thanks for reading.

This movie isn't as bad as everyone thinks it is, quite franquently I enjoyed it and thought it was pretty good. And yes I have watched the original series.
Eureka Seven The Movie is set in an alternate universe-meaning it's a completley different story, and characters have slightly different roles to play (like good guys are bad guys for example)-the film starts off with Renton as a young boy who is going off to see a Stardust flower (or something like that) bloom with his friend Eureka, their teacher Proffecor Dominic and a lava state creature Nirvash. Dominic tells them about how if you make a wish when a Stardust flower while it blooms then that wish might come true, Eureka attemps to make a wish but the flower fails to sucsesfuly bloom and dies. Dominic gives Renton and Eureka the seeds of the flower to use as good luck charms, and then leaves the next day to work on an experement. Soon after that some people come for Eureka take her away, and from that moment on Renton relise's that he can't protect the things that matter to him and vowes to one day bring Eureka back to where they grew up and protect her.
As I said erlier the story is completly seperate from the orginal series because it's set in an alternate universe-which I think is shame, but oh well-but even if it's not the continuation that everyone was hoping for, the story is still just as good as the original series's story.
The animation is also good and is almost the same as the series but in a few place's a bit better. The music is also the same as the original series, which is good because the soundtrack is quite good, espacily when it comes to the fight scenes, theres only one song in the entire movie that is new (as could tell) and that's the ending but all it is is just loud noise.
Overall this is a film that you will ever like or hate, depending on how much of a fan you are of the original series. If you want to try out the movie before watching the series then thats fine because they're completley seperate. Or if you're a fan then ignore all the reviews and watch it for your-self. This is a film for both new and old fans and I recomend it to anyone interested in it.
