Product Description
Spanish director Jésus Franco directs this controversial sado-masochistic drama, regarded by many as his masterpiece. Based on the novel 'Philosophy in the Boudoir' by Marquis De Sade, the film tells the story of an innocent young woman, Eugenie (Marie Liljedahl), who is taken by her father (Franco regular Jack Taylor) to stay at an island paradise at the request of the elegant Madame de Saint Ange (Maria Rohm), with whom he is obsessed. There, Eugenie becomes the unwitting pawn in a game of sexual debauchery and sadomasochistic pleasure as the enigmatic hostess and her stepbrother conspire to corrupt her, transforming her from a virginal innocent into a sexually-charged, drug-addicted sadist.

Eugenie was described by Jess Franco as the film he hated least. With good cause. Whilst some Franco fare is a jumble of sexploitation and poor editing, this little number is one of his best. Erotic without being tacky, and sensual without becoming pornographic, it is an excellent edition to any Eurotica collection.
Beautifully shot in a dreamy coastal landscape, with the awesome Marie Liljedahl and Maria Rohm, it is undoubtedly one of Franco's finest achievements. Dont know why the Amazon details of the film (year and cast) get their facts so wrong- so check the web for further details.
Anyway, buy it. And look out for Christopher Lee's interview in the extras. It is one of funniest little vignettes I have seen for a long time.

Excellent Eurochick flick. Beautiful transposition to DVD. Erotic and irresistible female leads. What more do you need for this sort of stuff? Franco even grants us a plot to accompany it.
Eugenie's descent into perversion is tactfully done, accompanied by the sonorous language of De Sade (beautifully read by Christopher Lee). The closing scene of the naked Eugenie running across the sands in despair is awesome. Definitely worth your money for this alone ...
