The guy who gave this album one star clearly hasn't got a clue what it is about. Not all Brazilian music is bossa nova! For a more balanced and better informed view, see the three reviewers on the US Amazon website, all of whom gave it five stars.

In fact this is one of Gil's best albums. What is so infectious is his sheer enjoyment of the music. A particular advantage from my point of view is that it isn't loaded with superfluous orchestral arrangements. It is currently being offered at a ridiculous price. Snap it up!

Simply some of the finest music you could ever hope to hear. No-one has more artistic integrity than Gilberto Gil.

A soundtrack CD - to a soap opera - if I need to continue, please seek psychiatric help. Some people enjoy hammering rusty nails through parts of their body, I guess someone might get a kick out of listening to this, I seriously doubt it though - The music sounds like samples from the former. Quite why Gilberto Gil is so highly rated I'll never know - do yourself a favour and avoid! Buy some Elis Regina, Maria Bethania, or Caetano Veloso..... I've seen this CD on ebay for 1p, and that's 1p too much. The worst CD in my collection, bar none. I doubt if I could even sell it on ebay for a penny.

"Eu Tu Eles" gives a glimpse of unknown face of br. music 7 Aug. 2000
By Christopher Niebylski - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This Soundtrack to the movie "Eu Tu Eles" (a real-life story of a woman in the Brazilian state of Ceara who has 3 husbands), offers listeners a type of music, famous in brazil, but little known by the outside world. For those who think that Brazil's music revolves around samba and pagode and axe beats, this CD will come as a pleasant surprise. For those already familiar with this style of music ("forro"-- a word originating from attempts of brazilians to say the english words "for all") this CD only serves to reassert Gil's greatness as a composer and singer. The lyrics are smart and reminiscent of many of the older forro songs, and the music itself is light, and a good music to dance to. For those interested in becoming acquainted with a very popular style of brazilian music, this CD is a wonderful way to begin.

Exciting and moving. 27 May 2002
By Benjamin Thompson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Gilberto Gil didn't write any of the songs, and only one song off the record is actually in the movie (and two during the credits), but man oh man, is this a fine record album. Many of these songs are famous and beloved by Brazilians young and old, and these performances in particular are FRESH and CLEAN! Gil's enthusiasm for music he is performing is always contagious, I can't stop listening to it! I really hope you buy it!

A few corrections: 1 Nov. 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
If the lyrics are reminiscent of old-style Forro songs, as the previous reviewer says, it is because they are old forro songs! The majority of the songs are covers of old forro classics (mostly by Luiz Gonzaga). This is a good starting point for new listeners; new listeners might want to look at older records, by Luiz Gonzaga, to hear the originals of these songs later.
4.5 stars 24 Sept. 2008

This is great music, it's Brazilian, there are upbeat shake your body tunes and some more melancholy tunes. I heard the soundtrack first, bought it, and then I watched the movie that this is a soundtrack too. Um, it wasn't a bad movie, but it was odd. Me, You, Them. A woman who has very little marriage prospects marries an older man when he asks because she has no hopes for anything better. His neighbor falls in love with her. She falls in love with a field hand she works in. It's quite a love square. But the soundtrack is very good, I keep it in my car.
