I needed a good set of noise cancelling earphones to remove high background noise as I exercise around our heli-deck on an offshore oil and gas production unit. These earphones have proved to live up to the maker's claims. Using the foam tips on the phones proved to be the best solution to my problem without any loss of bass. This very effectively blocks out the high background turbine noise and allows the crystal clear sound of filtered music and singing to enter the hearing canal, sounding just as it should do. The clarity of the voices and individual distinctiveness of the instruments has to be heard to be believed.

The ear phones stay in the ear even when jogging or exercising in the gym and are very light and comfortable.

A truly good product and for discerning or even half discerning enjoyers of music, well worth the cost.

A worthwhile upgrade 15 May 2006
Don't be put off by the negative reviews because it's definitely down to people incorrectly fitting them. I couldn't believe just how far you have to push them in (its a LONG way in), but when they're in properly you just know because almost 100% of outside noise just disappears. I was using a pair of the Sony in-ear ones which also isolate and these are just so much better in terms of mid and top end response and the bass (once fitted properly) is also clean and very tight. Well worth the money.

I have waited 2 months before writing a review. Like many of the reviewers, I found these earphones have excellent treble response. But when compared to my previous Sennheiser PX250 headphones the bass simply didn't compare.

The crucial thing with this type of earphone is to get the fit right.

I tried "3 flange" eartips first and was hugely disappointed. The foam tips vastly improved the sound and I stuck with these until they disintegrated last week but then I found the small "2 flange" eartips in the pack. This suited my narrow ear canal perfectly. The result - a superb soundstage between your ears, that picks up details in your music collection that you never knew existed. I love a bassy sound particularly for R&B tracks, and now that I have the fit right, these headphones display a crisp, rich and clear response. That said, you hear the bass rather than feel it so it might not be everyones taste.

You might not delighted with the first listen but try out the different eartips and find out what works best for you, only then will you get the etymotics experience!

I am glad I stuck with them. A great product particularly at the price Amazon sell them for.

Great but can be fragile
I originally bought ER6i's because I'd seen very good reviews and because for the money these seemed to be the critic's choice. They were not wrong. The sound is gorgeous. Read more

Great earphones, nice carry case. Just have to make sure not to yank them out of my ears by the thin wires. (compared to Shure phones)
