The Etymotic Research ER-6i Isolator is a compact, earbud-style set of earphones that are ideal for travel and personal listening. If you've ever been a skeptic of earbud sound quality, the ER-6i will shatter the headphone myth that bigger is better.
The ER-6i earphones have 8 dB higher sound output and increased bass compared to the ER-6 for a slightly "beefier" response |
The ER-6i features a noise isolation of 34-36 dB that far surpasses that of active noise-canceling earphones. This makes the ER-6i a perfect
choice for travelers, because these earphones will actively cancel the white noise caused by traffic, trains, or airplanes. These tiny earbuds are perfect for CD, DVD, and MP3 players, as well as laptop computers. Plus, the ER-6i is designed to plug directly into most airline audio systems, so you'll never have to pay for those cheap, airline headphones again.
The quality of these earphones is outstanding. They deliver such rich sound quality that even the most finicky audiophile will be impressed. The ER-6i earphones have a flat, real-ear response for reproducing CD and MP3 recordings. The sound accuracy is comparable to professional earphones, and provides surprising performance considering that the ER-6i is so compact and weighs less than an ounce.
Etymotic Research delivers outstanding comfort with the ER-6i. The flanged eartips fit snugly into most ear canals, but Etymotic goes one step further by providing disposable foam eartips. The foam eartips provide extra comfort and may offer a better seal in the ear canal. The ER-6i is designed to deliver excellent sound reproduction and big, rich bass tones. A good seal in your ear canal will ensure that you hear every detail of your favorite tunes. The ER-6i flanged eartips are easy to remove and should be cleaned regularly for the best listening experience. Etymotic Research provides you with the tools you need to keep your ER-6i clean and working properly.
Etymotic Design Means 100% Sonic AccuracyTarget curves on Etymotic Research graphs indicate 100% accuracy. Commercial recordings often have a high-frequency boost that
compensates for the high frequency roll-off in studio monitor loudspeakers and high-quality stereo loudspeakers and earphones. The ER-6i earphones compensate for the
high frequency boost added to high-quality recordings. This modification (approximately 5 dB at 10 kHz) is necessary to avoid earphones sounding too bright
on commercial recordings. In addition, the ER-6i adds 8dB sound output and increased bass for a slightly "beefier" response for those who like strong bass but still want 100% accuracy on the high end.
Other in-the-ear earphone manufacturers do not report accuracy scores, but Etymotic Research has
tested all competitive products. The accuracy scores of Etymotic Research earphones are higher than those
of most loudspeakers, and well above all competitive earphones, except electrostatic headphones that cost thousands of dollars.
What's in the Box ER-6 series earphones come with everything you need for a perfect audio experience |
ER-4P earphones can be used with portable CD, MP3, DVD and other players without requiring an additional amplifier. As compared to the ER-4S, the ER-4P has 10 dB greater output at high frequencies and 13 dB greater output at low frequencies. The higher sensitivity and enhanced bass of the ER-4P have made it the most popular earphone for most uses.
Noise reduction with ER-4 MicroPro earphones occurs naturally from the inserts. Other earphones with active noise-cancelling add circuit noise and require bulky batteries.
In-the-ear, high fidelity transducers combine flat frequency response with isolation from external noise.
The white 3-flange eartips provide 35 dB average external noise isolation. Foam eartips provide 41 dB average external noise isolation. Lowering surrounding noise allows the listener to hear the full dynamic range of recordings at lower reproduction levels.
ER-4 MicroPro earphones are ideal for a variety of consumer uses such as personal CD and DVD players, MP3 players, and computers. Professional uses include mixing and stage monitoring in the studio and during live performance.

superb,
This review is from: Etymotic Research ER6i Isolator In-Ear Earphones - White (Electronics)
After trying 3 other sets of headphones and being dissapointed with them (2 of them Sonys for the £30-£40 range) the Etymotics arrived a couple of days ago. Yes, £80 is a lot of money for headphones (especially when using with an ipod) but the sound quality is amazing. I don't know why some say the bass is awful. It's not. No, it's not as atificially high as say the Sonys, but more natural and balanced. To get the bass right does require a good fit and seal in the ear though. If you need more bass, you can always put the eq onto rock which has an effect, but I prefer having the eq off for all music.I'm a professional musician and I'm now hearing things in my regular listened to tracks that I didn't know were there. Really good clarity, eg the string pig playing on jazz albums really stands out, and classical music is lovely on these phones. They really pick out individual instruments. Add to that they look great, are comfortable, block outside noise and were designed (in looks as well) for the ipod then I can't fault them. You may want to import some music on a high bitrate though, as they will pick fault with low quality imports because they're so detailed.

Brilliant headphones that happen to be for portables,

This review is from: Etymotic Research ER6i Isolator In-Ear Earphones - White (Electronics)
These are very high quality headphones. I own many top quality audiophile headphones including a Stax Lamdba/SRM1 electrostatic home system, Sennheiser HD580, Sennheiser HD280, and Grado SR80. The Etymotics ER6i in-ear phones are in the same league. I've even recently been listening to them at work in preference to my Sennheiser HD280. And the ER6i is a small discrete portable package that sounds just as great driven by an iPod or minidisc. I bought them for use on the train and bus hoping they would get me close to what I've come to expect from headphones. I never expected them to better some of them. Brilliant.

Only going backwards will you notice the difference,

This review is from: Etymotic Research ER6i Isolator In-Ear Earphones - White (Electronics)
When i first got these buds i thought the sounds was amazing, good bass and treble but the questions i really kept coming back to was were they really worth the cash at 2.5 times the cost of my Sony Mdr-Ex81 (Which if you are on a budget are the only way to go for the price there is nothing like them)So all the while listening to my Ety's this thought was going around and around my head were they really worth the price and i can say it was only when i went back to the Sonys for a day that I immediately realised how superior the Ety's are simply mind blowing. If you got the cash you really need a pair also they are a perfect Ipod match (hence the I in the title) Hope that helps any budding audiophiles about to take the first leap
