ETY-Plugs earplugs have nearly the same fidelity as Etymotic's Musicians Earplugs (TM) (custom earplugs worn by professional musicians) and are a low cost alternative. Hearing loss is a function of exposure time, the average sound level, and the peak level of very loud sounds. Exposure to excessive noise can cause permanent hearing loss depending on the intensity and duration of the sound. Some persons are more susceptible to hearing loss from high-level sound than others. I have found that Etymotic Research are easily the leaders for sound clarity and protection, there is no doubt about that, and the only thing better than these would be to get custom fitted earplugs (which I can say are 100% worth the money if you play in a band) but seeing as they cost a fair bit these are the perfect alternative.
I use these for live music situations and I find that you get more clarity of your own instrument and all the other instruments in the band too. Which is great when you play loud music.
The only bummer about this purchase was that they come in two sizes, making it a bit 'hit or miss' and to have the best protection you want the perfect fit. So you won't know this unless you buy both sizes. Another thing to note about these ear plugs is that they protrude from your ear by bout 3-4mm so maybe not so great if you're gonna be moshing or slamming at a gig but for practicing in a band or spectating at a gig they are perfect and I would go as far as saying they are much better than Alpine musician earplugs (which I also have).
Anyways; I decided to go for the standard ones which I had to shorten a bit (my audiologist reckoned this wouldn't effect the protection much as long as it creates a better seal in the ear canal) and now they fit very well. These plugs also come with a keyring carry case which has proven to be invaluable.
After being put off from using earplugs in the past by trying many times to use the less expensive foam earplugs which muffled and ruin the sound/experience of live music. I have recently got tinnitus and so cannot recommend using earplugs enough. I just wished someone had told me how good earplugs are nowadays as it may have prevented my tinnitus in the first place. These are a great buy if you are in to live music and they'll definitely change your mind about using earplugs!

If you go clubbing or work in a club, save your ears and buy these, you can still hear the the music and talk whilst dancing , no more ringing in your ears when you leave the club, when your mates are shouting down your ears, these will protect them. a good buy
This is a fantastic item i don't know why i have struggled along for so long with out them. A must have item
