David Henry Bastion, a married man, is every bit as pompous and self-righteous as his name sounds and he sees himself as "a cut above the rest". He is a creature of habit and over the past 15 years Wednesday afternoons have become very special to him. However, this particular Wednesday he has had to deviate from his normal routine and we find him struggling with the Daily Telegraph crossword puzzle on his train journey to Paris, en route to Zurich on company business. His concentration is not being helped by the inane and intrusive conversations of his fellow passengers and he is relieved when the train finally pulls into the station. Unfortunately, a nasty surprise awaits him and a tasty platter of that sweet dish, revenge, is served!
As one of the reviewers has already said, it is unusual for a character in such a short story to be well-developed and credible, but here the author has managed to do this successfully, I think. A well-written, pithy short read!
