Robert Bowie has produced a book that has helped me through the first half of my A/S year in my Ethics course. he is very clear and understandable in waht he has to say and he is too the point. he provides plenty of relevent issues that are relevent to my course and to my exam. the book it's self i found very approachable and i would recommend for anybody taking A/S and A level theology or ethics. it also provides all the information needed for the A2 course and has prepared me with good understanding of what is too come form the course.

There are much better options than this book.,

I wanted to use this book for further knowledge-gaining for AS Unit A Religion and Ethics 1, AS Unit B Religion and Ethics 2 and A2 Unit 3A Religion and Ethics for the AQA Religious Studies. Therefore, I though I would benefit from the following sections in the book: "Part I: Ethical Theories: Utilitarianism: a theory of usefulness", "Part I: Ethical Theories: Kant", "Part I: Ethical Theories: Situation Ethics", "Part I: Ethical Theories: Virtue theory", "Part III: Ethical Issues: Sexual ethics and homosexuality", "Part III: Ethical Issues: Life before birth: abortion", "Part III: Ethical Issues: Voluntary Euthanasia", "Part III: Ethical Issues: Environmental Ethics" and "Part III: Ethical Issues: War and peace". In other words, most of the book. Imagine my disappointment when I found out all the information in this book is identical to the information Bowie has provided in his other books "AS AQA Religious Studies: Ethics" (ISBN: 9780748798193) and "A2 AQA Religious Studies: Ethics" (ISBN: 9781408513835) specified for the same course as a "must read". I know that both these were (supposedly) written and published after the "Ethical Studies: Second Edition" book, but I am astounded at the laziness of Bowie - he has only re-arranged the content and just adapted it to look as if its all "new". Even the examples he gives are the same. Therefore, I gained no new knowledge form this book. Money completely wasted. I have the same text twice now!
Further, the size of the letters is so massive, it is uneasy on the eyes and not at all pleasant (aesthetically-wise) to look at and read. It is just not very well designed, on top of all else. If you have the other two books already, do not buy this one, if you do not, it is better to get them, as they are tailored to the specific requirements of AQA RS, so in all circumstances talking about this book: Avoid, avoid, avoid!

The best text book for A level ethics I have read,
This review is from: Ethical Studies: Second Edition (Paperback)
What a find! A suberb foundational text book for A level ethics. Covering all board requirements. R Bowie must be praised for his clarity of writing and presentation. Ideal for AS and A2 students alike.
