This product is really cheap when compared to others which are available. You may think that it might be a little dodgy as a result, but the truth is the hardware is solid, but there may be some confusion about the drivers which it requires.

It should come with a CD, but if it is faulty (mine was for the Mac drivers), here is a link to a website which can provide the Mac drivers only. (You will probably need the x86_64 drivers for modern macs, including the Air and Pro)

I tried the adaptor out, and it is zippy and I had no noticeable difference between the speed of this adaptor and my wifi connection at home.

Overall, excellent product, just might turn out to be a little tricky to install.

5.0 out of 5 stars It works! 18 Feb 2014

It's does the job for a small device I wanted to have a wired connection rather than a wireless one. It was delivered on time and it works. It does come with one of those mini-cd's though so I had to put my PC on it's side so the CD drawer was flat but that's nit picking. It works, it was cheap and unlike my ex-wife, I'm still happy with it.

This worked first time, plugged into my Acer Ultrabook s3-391, windows 8, downloaded drivers automatically, connected to my DHCP server and now browsing happily - also installed wireshark and has the req'd drivers to be compatible at 100mbit/s. Delivered within 3days!

1.0 out of 5 stars Painfully slow as its USB 1 not 2 as advertised. 18 Feb 2013
By Fivish
Painfully slow as its USB 1 not 2 as advertised. You can only really use it to access your router to change settings.
I only got 2.5Mbs from my 40Mbs broadband using this LAN plug. Its only virtue is its cheapness.
I only wanted one of these as my new Ultrabook does not have a LAN socket due to the thinness of the case!
A good LAN plug will cost around £20.

1.0 out of 5 stars Can't find drivers for Windows 7 1 Dec 2013
I got this from a friend who couldn't install it on her Win 8 laptop.
I tried getting drivers for my Win 7 systems but absolutely no luck.

I searched for this device on wholesale websites and it happens to be that this adapter uses Infineon ADM 8515 chipset. I have no idea what this is, but I couldn't find drivers for Win7 or Win8. I think this is some kind of very obsolete chipset. Not even a trusted driver for Vista (Vista drivers sometimes work on Win7)

Anyways, I see that some people can use this so it's cool but there is no guarantee it will work on your device.
If someone finds a driver, please post it in the comment to this review, I believe it would help many.

P.S.

I had another USB to ethernet adapter, it looked similar to this one but it was made of black non-transparent plastic. If you find that one it will most surely work plug-and-play on Win7.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent device 23 Aug 2013

This is amazing value for money, the supplied disc contains drivers for every OS, including Linux. I have a 30meg connection but can never achieve that speed using wifi so this allows me to use a cable connection with a laptop that doesn't have an ethernet port, brilliant.

1.0 out of 5 stars does NOT do what it says on the box 22 May 2012

very disappointing, waste of time and money.

this adaptor might look pretty but that's just about it. i have been waiting for it for a fair amount of time as it's being shipped all the way from across the globe, and once it arrived there was simply no way to actually make it work.

the driver cd that was included simply did not work for me, i was getting a program termination error as soon as i even tried to start the setup. i contacted the seller for a new set of drivers, i got a link in response. those drivers actually did install fine for me but they didn't do a thing! my laptop still does not recognize the device at all.

i just gave up and ordered a £40 adaptor from another store... at least with that one i won't have to go for a trip to china to get it fixed!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Value ! 11 Feb 2012
Good Product ! i bought this as an alternative to my dead Ethernet port and was worried about various reviews found on Amazon with similar picture, but it just worked fine on the first go.

all OS drivers were on the disk, so i installed the driver first (win7) and just plugged in , it works cool in USB 2.0 which i was mostly worried about.

Good Value for money !
