Whilst I agree with the other positive reviews I feel to give this film more than 3 stars belittles films especially 'gay' ones that are far superior (Summer Storm, Balls, Were the World mine etc). Whilst the story line is original, the son (Ethan Mao) gets outed by his fairy tale, sterotypically evil, step mother and his father throws him out leading to an accidental hostage situation, that is about it.
The acting veers from just above adequate to regional am dram. I agree with one of the reviewers that the script is partially to blame for this but a lot of 'blame' has to be laid at the door of Quentin Lee after all he wrote and directed the thing. Maybe there were issues around time or other commitments (I am just guessing) but I just got the feeling that everything was a tad too one dimensional and all the characters were contrived.
Whilst it is not a rubbish film if I were his teacher his report would say 'could do better', and do not think this is a bedroom gymnastic fest either - just in case you were wondering.
