Product Description

The prophecies were there, but no one listened. Until now. They are the Lords of Deliverance, and they have the power to usher in Doomsday... or prevent it.

His name is Ares, and the fate of mankind rests on his powerful shoulders. If he falls to the forces of evil, the world falls too. As one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, he is far stronger than any mortal, but even he cannot fight his destiny forever. Not when his own brother plots against him. Yet there is one last hope. Gifted in a way other humans can't - or won't - understand, Cara Thornhart is the key to both this Horseman's safety and his doom. But involving Cara will prove treacherous, even beyond the maddening, dangerous desire that seizes them the moment they meet. For staving off eternal darkness could have a staggering cost: Cara's life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful start to a new series 13 April 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Eternal Rider is the first book in a new series by Larissa Ione, and what a start. This is a rip-roaring ride of a story with action all the way. The series is about the four horsemen of the apocalypse, or to be precise 3 horsemen and 1 horsewoman. First up is Ares/war a giant of a male at nearly seven feet tall totally imposing in his leather armour astride his horse Battle, the heroine is Cara a human woman who knows nothing of the demon world, but very quickly is dragged into it by chance. When someone brings to her door a dog that has been run over, only this is not a dog this is a hellhound. From that moment it is game on.a lot happens in this book so I don't want to give any more away than that. The story is well written well thought out and the characters are well defined. The relationship between Ares and Cara is brilliant at first she is in shock as to what is happening but soon gets a grip and is not going to be pushed around by Ares even if he is one of the most powerful beings on the planet. The chemistry and sexual tension between the two is HOT. Characters from the Demonica series also involved in the story as well.I loved this book and already have the next on pre-order which is out in December The immortal Rider. For those of you new to Ms.Ione her Demonica series is also a must.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love the chemistry with the characters 22 April 2011
By Has
Eternal Rider is the first book of the Lords of Deliverance series which is also a spin-off from the Demonica books. Unlike the original Demonica books which focuses around the demon hospital and the core characters who worked or linked there, The Lords of Deliverance focuses on four half angel and half demonic siblings cursed to hold seals that would transform them into the four horsemen of the Apocalypse.
In this book, Ares, who is the Horseman for War, tries to stop his seal from breaking. He is also constantly battling against his brother, Reseph, who has become Pestilence due to his seal breaking. Reseph is causing mayhem and havoc across the world with plagues and diseases. So Ares and his family (brother Thanatos, who is Death, and his sister Limos, who is Famine) are on the hunt to find out more about their seals, and to stop their brother Reseph from breaking them and succumbing to evil.
I really found that with this book, things are kicked up a notch and concentrates on the wider demonic and angelic world. I will try to remain spoiler free, but I have to mention a few spoilers because it's hard to avoid them. Due to the events of the last book, Sin Undone, Reseph's (who is one of the Horsemen) seal was broken because of the plague that occurred. And now the threat of a looming apocalypse is a step closer. When the Horsemens seals breaks, they become demons. Truly evil beings that will kill the people they love, and who want to bring upon an Apocalypse.
I would recommend that readers read the previous books in the Demonica series to get an understanding of the world-building and setting.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good start to a series 24 Jan 2012
By The Demon Librarian TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition
Overall this was a pretty good start to a series. I liked the general concept of the four horsemen and their curses. That was something new and refreshing. The mythology and worldbuilding was great as well. Ione has created a very expansive world filled with a myriad of different creatures and species. The sex scenes were pretty hot and I was rooting for the couple by the end.

That was all the good stuff.

However, because this is a spin-off series there was a lot of time devoted to revisiting characters from the main Demonica series, and as I have only read one of those, and even that was some years ago, all of those sections were totally lost on me. That's when I found my attention wandering. Several times during this book my interest peaked and waned and peaked again. We'd suddenly swap to some characters (of which loads and loads were mentioned) who were recently mated and having a baby or just had some babies. And I'm sure if I had a clue who these people were it would be lovely to catch up with them. As it was, I was kind of bored. It's probably my own fault for reading a spinoff before the main series but I do also believe that Ione was a little overindulgent in her "name dropping" of Demonica cast members. You have to assume not everyone will know who these people are.

Also, because this is a well established world with a full series worth of worldbuilding under it's belt, a lot of that same info dumping had to be shoved into this one book and it was a lot to absorb.

So my advice would be that this is a good series, and even though you can follow the plot easy enough without reading Demonica first, in terms of enjoyment, I think mine would have been upped exponentially had I read them the correct way around.

I'm still going to carry on with the next book and hope that a lot of these issues will be gone or at least lessened.

4.0 out of 5 stars Paranormal romance at its best 3 April 2011
By Gareth Wilson - Falcata Times Blog TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
I haven't read Larissa's writing before so whilst I know that she'd written the Daemonica series (currently five novels) I was a little apprehensive as I knew that this new release was set in the same world and a little worried that I'd be missing a lot of the world building and history.

Whilst it won't go as in depth as a lot of new readers may want, it does give the reader enough of an understanding in order to enjoy the title as it unfurls. Whilst a lot of the current trend for the Urban Fantasy genre tends to work on the kickass aspect, there are a few that are working more for the paranormal romance and as such, it is this latter category to which this title fits. It is well written, the characters have flaws and boons that the readers will come to love and to be honest once I got into it (I felt the language was a little clunky to begin with) I had a great time.

The love aspect was beautifully worked into the overall thread, the prose was quiet poetic and the pace was carefully worked through to allow readers the chance to get to know the characters in the lulls. All in an interesting title to kick off a new series and one that will have me going back to pick up the Daemonica, especially as part of the thread at the beginning was revealed at the end of the previous.
