Far too little has been heard of Jamie O'Neal, but at least she makes sure that when she does record an album, the quality is high. There is one song here (Wide awake) that appears to be an original song, the rest being cover versions of country oldies.

The set opens with Born to run, a cover of the Paul Kennerley song first recorded by Emmylou Harris for her album Cimarron, and not to be confused with a similarly titled song by Bruce Springsteen. This song is easily overlooked so I'm pleased that Jamie has chosen to revive it.

The next three tracks are more predictable for this type of album, but Jamie does them superbly. Although I am a Larry Gatlin fan, I don't remember hearing another cover of I've done enough dying today (a top 10 country hit in the seventies) before. I have the original on a Gatlin CD, but Jamie does a fine version of this song. Still, it is interesting that she chose this ahead of several more familiar Gatlin songs.

Next comes Just one time, originally a country hit for Don Gibson, but also later for Connie Smith, and it's a classic. Patsy Cline was the original singer of Leavin' on your mind, which was co-written by Webb Pierce. Patsy recorded her version in 1963, only a few weeks before her death in a plane crash.

The next three tracks, although all covers, are not especially famous songs, but Jamie chose well and clearly loves these songs. The final track, Wide awake, is actually about having a partner who snores a lot. At one level, this is an amusing song, but I can imagine that it is a serious problem for some couples.

This is a magnificent album that provides a great mix of familiar classics and less famous songs.
