2.0 out of 5 stars Dissapointing 3 April 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book started off so promisingly. The main character was a strong female (quite different to the saps we get lumped with in other YA fiction). The writing was fine, and the sarcastic banter between the two leads was refreshing, exactly what a teenager wants to read.
Then halfway through it all went tits up.
All of a sudden these two people -practically strangers - were declaring their unending, undying, eternal love for eachother, to the extent that would make anyone who wasn't a thirteen year-old YA dark romance obsessed little girl feel rather sick. The imediacy and ferocity of their love wasn't romantic, or enthralling, it was just plain unhealthy. As a reading experience, it wasn't a smooth transition. They didn't glide into romance poetically, and gracefully as the genre demands. It was like being hit by a truck. The book became PACKED with cliches and some of the wost characterization I've ever witnessed.
Such a shame, because the original plot idea was so promising, and the main characters in the first few chapters were fantastic! One star for the start, two stars for the potential that the author shows. Such a waste of a really good beginning. All this book needs is some heavy duty editing, and I would gladly give this book a second chance.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed! 11 Mar 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Having read several books by Rachel Higginson and Jennifer Armentrout, Amazon recommended this series, which I was really looking forward to... what a let down. After a promising beginning, Eternal Eden takes a huge nose dive into the unbelievable, even by fantasy genre standards! The 'love' between the two characters is completely forced and just weird, not even to mention the random addition of Paul, a character who really doesn't seem to have a clear purpose. I use the word 'character' in its loosest form here, none of the characters are developed beyond sticking a name and a bit of dialogue to them. I found them all to be completely interchangeable. The whole romance between Bryn and William, if you could get past the forced factor, was simply nauseating. It felt like I was reading an update of a book from the 1800s, so helpless, flat, and man-centric Bryn was, and how simpering and pathetic William was. Add to this the fact that the Immortals as a species were underdeveloped, not planned out well, and basically a rip off of Stephanie Meyers' vampires, like the plot itself... Guy is existentially suffering for hundreds of years alone, finds mortal soulmate, introduces her to whole new world etc. Her reaction to said world too was ridiculous. I don't enjoy giving negative reviews, and I always read the whole book before judging, but this is a really awful story, so thin on plot, character development and general sense-making. Waste of an evening.

2.0 out of 5 stars AAAH!!! So promising! 29 Mar 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I really just couldn't handle this book. The beginning had so much potential, and I thought it was actually going to be stomachable! Then it just got so cheesy. The main girl- whose name is on the tip of my tongue!- was just so insecure it was seriously annoying. All that seemed to happen was her and William staring into each others eyes, and telling each other how much they loved the other. NOOO!!!It was so promising, as well! Two stars, for the potential, but the rest was just dire!

2.0 out of 5 stars Waiting for more 16 Jun 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This novel is inconsistent at best. Starting with a girl named Bryn complaining about how she hates rich kids and cuts herself off, and later on talking about her vintage car and how her parents had worked in law; and even being gifted a "$700,000" car like it is nothing.
To top it off, the secondary main character William who she claims to love is just as wealthy as her. This does not seem very well thought through in general as part of the plot; the main character is flaky and inconsistent at best, the romance between them cliche and seemingly founded on nothing but the fact that they like the way the other one looks. Despite the explanation of how her stereotypical one true love has had visions of her for 200 years, frankly the 'relationship' between them is verging on ridiculous.

Whilst I would hope to see it get better and actually have the writer consider the plotline a bit more, I cannot bring myself to pay for a second novel to see if they actually have a relationship beyond attraction and self-pity which they share between them throughout the majority of the novel.

This being said, the writing in itself is not awful; the lack of plotline and development just makes this a pushing read at best and extremely unentertaining.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good solid read 28 Dec 2011
By Kate B
Format:Kindle Edition
I purchased this book on my kindle, as it was free and i liked the idea of the description. To be honest i wasnt really expecting too much from this, but thought i would give it a go. When i started to read Eternal Eden i was pleasantly surprised. I am very much a big fan of paranormal romance and i do enjoy a good YA book, despite being in my early 20s. This book was entertaining, and kept me hooked until the very end. I also really enjoyed the writing style, yes i did notice a few spelling errors but all in all this was a great book. I fell in love with the characters especially the growing relationship between William and Bryn, so much so I am now about to purchase book 2 and 3. Its free so give it a try!
