Product Description

Product Description

This new title from Crimson Publishing is another in the classic Pathfinder Walks series, using Ordnance Survey mapping. This new title from Crimson Publishing is another in the classic Pathfinder Walks series, using Ordnance Survey mapping. As in all titles in the series, each walk is accompanied by colour mapping and clear directions, with full-colour photographs throughout. The 28 walks are graded according to length and accompanied by extensive information and advice for walkers. Essex possesses much fine and varied countryside, and its great expanses of lonely marshes, rolling farmlands, ancient woodlands, wide views and attractive villages more than compensate for a lack of dramatic hill country. There are also outstandingly attractive and distinctive villages and small towns with a wealth of historic buildings, as well as some of the finest surviving fragments of England's medieval forests. Essex retains plenty of pleasant and unspoilt countryside, enhanced by attractive old towns, pretty villages and interesting historic monuments - a combination that makes for excellent walking.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rambling on flat land, 18 Mar 2003
By A Customer
Having lived in Essex for most of my life there were still loads of areas that I hadn't seen. I'd go to other places in the UK and get to see as much of the area that I could, but didn't do the same for Essex, until now.....

This book has been so well used. I now go for a walk most weekends and the structure of this book means I can choose the length and difficulty of the walk with ease. There have been a few mistakes in directions that I've found, mainly to do with the changing landscape and signs/paths/stiles rather than problems with the book itself. However, if you're armed with an Ordance Survey map it's pretty impossible to get lost.

Obviously not the most strenuous of environments to walk in as Essex is so flat, but a good, useful book to have to explore the very pretty areas that exist in this county.

5.0 out of 5 stars Discover the real Essex., 22 Jun 2006
By sasquatch-in-essex (Brentwood, England.) - See all my reviews
Although Essex is often the butt of many cheap gags, for those in the know it boasts a wide variety of beautiful and unspoilt countryside. The walks featured in this book allow you to explore the county and discover for yourself it's many wonders. From relatively easy four-milers which provide a pleasant afternoon stroll, to a challenging 11 mile hike around the salt marshes of the Bradwell peninsula, there are walks here to suit everyone.

As with the rest of the Pathfinder Guide series, this book has clear concise instructions, and with the inclusion of sections of the relevant Ordinance Survey map, you shouldn't get lost.
