Book Description

1 Sep 1977
Essex and its people have exercised a greater influence on the wider history of England—and, for that matter, Europe—than most counties, and its inhabitants are justifiably proud of this. Here the author does not just record what happened, he evaluates why it happened, in the context of cultural, social, economic and topographical dimensions. “... provides illuminating insights into Essex history and will be enjoyed by all those interested in the county’s past.” Essex Journal
--This text refers to an alternate Hardcover edition.

Gliding over the history of Essex {East Saxon} county Kenneth Neale dislays how events panned out north of Old Father Thames since before Roman times.
Essex was in its begining a farming land cut from the forests that fed London to the south.
Well illustrated, but in black & white due to the age this book was published {1977}.
There is little written about the history of Essex in print these days.
