Product Description

If you need to maximize efficiency in wireless network planning, this quick reference guide to an increasingly complex and difficult topic is for you. Using real-world case studies, practical problems and minimum mathematics, the author explains simply and clearly how to predict signal strengths in a variety of situations. More sophisticated methods, which form the basis of software tools for both network planning and spectrum management, are also described. This will be an invaluable resource for network planners, hardware designers, spectrum managers, senior technical managers and policy makers.

Anyone with a technical interest in RF propagation should read this excellent book.
Starting from the basics, Christopher Haslett's explanations are clear and concise, and include the essential maths with practical examples that are easily understood.
Systems used for radio, TV, mobile phone and satellite communications are all covered in sufficient detail to enable "real world" calculations to be done (and they do work - I use them to predict TV signal reception, and they give good correlation with actual measurements).

Alternate title: "See ITU-R..." 14 Jan 2011

I seldom have the desire to write any type of a review for a text that I would not recommend to someone else. However, I feel the need to say that if you are searching for a text to introduce you to radio wave propagation...just keep browsing. This is NOT the one to get. There is really very little of value here, in my humble opinion. This text has very little detail on any aspect of propagation and instead refers the reader to other works, such as the ITU-R publications, for further details, far too often. I was so relieved that I purchased it at a huge discount from a used bookseller.

I recommend the following texts:

Propagation of Radiowaves, 2nd Edition (Electromagnetic Waves)

Radiowave Propagation

Introduction to RF Propagation
