Good news for all who are having difficulty finding this title - it has now been updated and reissued by Orchid Press in Bangkok and can already be found in many bookshops in the city. I understand that the new edition will soon be available in the US and UK as well. Tapes have been replaced with an audio CD, terminology needed for modern times has been updated (eg references to payphones, replaced with mobile phone terms, and so on) and a new dictionary has been added to the book. Great to have this excellent, and classic, learning tool back again !

Essential Thai: A Guide to the Basics of the Thai Language is the best text book I have found in many years of visiting Thailand.
Unfortunatly it is out of print and copies are becoming more difficult to find. To save weight on my 20kg luggage allowance I have scanned the whole book and carry it in softcopy on my laptop.
