I was intially sceptical about this book before reading it. I had bought "50 places to sail before you die" and felt it was a waste of money. But this is different and is clearly written by someone who understands what you would be looking for as a sailor. It provides practical info which would help you decide whether you might like to cruise in this area. It contains useful planning info such as sailing season, prevailing wind, degree of difficulty etc. It covers 71 places and has been put together by some reputable yachting writers and it shows. It is supported by some stunning photography which should really whet the appetite to investigate new areas. My only negative would be that the photos of west coast of Scotland could have been more spectacular given the scenery - but it is a minor negative. Definately worth buying if you are looking for new cruising grounds or if considering places to charter.

Totally inspiring ! A wonderful book that inspires many hours of dreaming about giving up the rat race, selling the house, buying a cruiser and visiting all of these fantastic places. The information, from true experts, is pitched just perfectly, and the photographs just make you want to go wherever is being discussed. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with this book, though some may disagree on the selection of destinations, and have favourites of their own.

The only disappointment (apart from my lack of courage in giving in to temptation) is that I just wanted more. Please can we have a volume 2 ? I'm sure there are other "essentials" out there.

Interesting for everyone who loves sailing and tourism. A book that allows you to dream away when looking at those destinations (even if you never visited one of those places). Unfortunately, when you open the book you get an "old feeling". Lay out and colors reminded me of publications from the 70s - 80s. Not from a 2008 printed book.
Many pictures are grainy and have not-so-natural colors. I have the impression that many of the photos were made decades ago. The small maps (with each destination) are often too small. Why not use a bigger map as background of the text?
Lay out and photograps are disappointing (apart from the cover photo which looks great).

This is great reading/ browsing for sailors and holiday-makers alike. Drool over those wonderful destinations you' really love to visit! There are great photos and helpful descriptions. Good to keep as a coffee table read or just for reference if the need arises.
