We scanned through all the Menorca guides we could find prior to our holiday this year and selected this one because it seemed to be the most concise and complete.
We're especially interested in neolithic sites and this book covers those very well. In general we'd recommend this book to everyone over others but WOULD just say - treat some of the entries with a little caution. Some of the 'little excursions' tend to be more complex and taxing than the entry would indicate and some are not at all suitable for young children (our daughter is 7 and whilst she enjoyed climbing Santa Agueda she hated the trip down to Cova Des Coloms!). Perhaps I missed a disclaimer at the start of the book but really, if you're going to do some of the walks, I would stress Wear appropriate clothing and boots - we saw some people trying to hike down valleys in flip-flops - not good. Some of them (Cova Des Coloms) really aren't suitable for young children - and you'll need a flashlight too!
Phrases like ' a simple 20 minute walk' could mean over an hour if you park in the wrong place (like we did!) - some of the directions are accurate but vague (if you know what I mean). It's not until you walk past one of the markers that you think 'oh, that's the farmhouse we should park by....'
If it hasn't been updated (and I think not) all the values are in Pesetas rather than Euros which renders that part of the book useless.
The rest of the book is fine and we found it indispensable as a guide (driving well over 600 miles in our two weeks to see the sights) - but buy a map once you get there - the one in the book is too small and undetailed.
Oh, and the donkey safari park went bust two years ago but we found where it was and had a very good coffee there. There is a new Horse/Donkey Riding centre a short way away now.
Well, those are our gripes - whatever, enjoy Menorca - it really is a gem of an island!
