Charles Dickens work has been part of my life always....this cd is an addition to a collection of books, movies, every format and version of all his work....I enjoyed this very much, English actors voices delivering a classic delivery of the text, love them....avoid American voices turns Dickens into schmaltz.....this is really amazing,close your eyes and see the text come alive in your minds eye :-)
This year 2012 being Dickens celebration of his birthdate hopefully loads more will be released on Kindle too....

I grew up with this in the sixties and never got tired of it. Now have it on CD and still love it. Ralph Richardson is for me the only Scrooge and Paul Scofield's narration is just the icing on the cake.

I bought this disc of Dicken's "A Christmas Carol" to replace a cassette
in my collection that I have been having the pleasure of listening to for a long time. Sir Ralph Richardson and company deliver an abridged performance of the work, done as a radio play of sorts. The recording done in the Sixties is a little dated in the violin sound effects, but the acting makes up for a great deal here. My only complaint is that when
the recording was originally released it was done in Two channel bin-aurally, the tranfer sounds like they attepted to force it into stereo with a curious sounding outcome. Thats why only 4 stars instead of 5. This does not however diminish the performances of the players, or mar the story itself.

I have listened to this rendition every year for the last 40 years - needless to say, this is an indispensible part of my Christmas. I close my eyes and am transported to 19c London. It is magic.

I grew up on this recording, on LP of course! From 1960 to 1985, My mother, father, and I listened to it every Christmas Eve. I have been looking for a digital recording of this for over 25 years! and just the other day thought, oh what the heck, I'll try again - let's see if there's at long last a CD recording of this production. My search skills having improved, I found this new release of the original recording - amazing cast and amazing production - better than any other I have listened too. All great, great actors! Hope you all will try it out.
