The Essential Diabetes Cookbook,

This review is from: The Essential Diabetes Cookbook: Good Healthy Eating from Around the World in Association with Diabetes UK (Hardcover)
This is a very good recipe book. It is very comprehensive and caters for all food types - meat;fish and vegetarian eaters. It is a good size - you can prop it up against a wall and read as you cook. It is attractively photographed.
The range of recipes from across the world made me restock my spices and also buy a new wok. I have to say that I had no time for A. Worrall Thompson before I read an article about the book. He just struck me as yet another celebrity chef amongst the many. However, he has created a very good book for diabetics. The only problem is that there is no indication of GI factor in any of the recipes unlike my other cookbook "Quick Recipes for Diabetes" by Louise Blair and Norma McGough. However, Louise Blair co-authors "The Essential Diabetes Cookbook" and Diabetes UK are also involved. To conclude I would recommend this book for anyone who lives with a diabetic in an effort to make fun wholesome food.

The same old dietary misinformation for diabetics,
This review is from: The Essential Diabetes Cookbook: Good Healthy Eating from Around the World in Association with Diabetes UK (Hardcover)
When the book starts by suggesting that diabetic meals should contain 40% of carbohydrate you know that this is based on outdated information. For type 2 diabetics reducing carbohydrate intake is the best thing they can do to control blood sugar and many of the meals in this book will cause sharp spikes in blood sugar within an hour or two of being eaten. That said there are some nice recipes here but most of them should not be targeted at diabetics.

A cookery book for anyone and you do not have to be a diabetic. Easy to follow, and having now tried some of the dishes each one has been great.
AWT has produced a cookery book that needs to be in every kitchen for meals with something for everyone. Even the pictures are a feast.
