Format: Audio CD
Syreeta was once married to Stevie Wonder though the marriage only lasted a couple of years. The business relationship was more successful, with Syreeta sometimes singing backup on Stevie's records while Stevie helped Syreeta's career in other ways. Furthermore, they often wrote songs together, their most successful collaboration perhaps being Signed sealed delivered, an international hit for Stevie. As far as I know, they didn't record any duets together.
Syreeta recorded a single in 1968 using the name Rita Wright, the A-side being I can't give back the love I feel for you. The two sides of that single are the final two tracks on this album. Following the failure of that single (despite being well-promoted and getting plenty of American airplay), Syreeta abandoned the Rita abbreviation and reverted to her own first name, dropping her surname in the process.
Syreeta's biggest UK hit (and only American hit) was her duet with Billy Preston, With you I'm born again, which peaked at number two in the UK. It is extraordinary that Syreeta missed the American pop charts completely with her solo recordings. Four of them made the UK charts, the most successful being the number twelve hit, Your kiss is sweet. Spinning and spinning, Harmour love and It will come in time were only minor UK hits.
This collection includes all the aforementioned songs including her own version of Signed sealed delivered as well as a duet with Smokey Robinson (First time on a ferris wheel), a duet with G C Cameron (Let's make a deal) and several excellent solo tracks.
If you enjoy seventies Motown music, give Syreeta a listen.

Includes both sides of her Rita Wright single from 1968 and one duet apiece with Billy Preston, GC Cameron, and Smokey. 8 tracks produced by Stevie Wonder - all brilliantly timeless - and 5 odd solo tracks from later albums. Great to hear a track from the ignored album with GC Cameron. Her material was so good, there should be a second volume. Sadly no previously unreleased tracks but a great album...

I bought this CD based on hearing Syreeta singing a duet on an old BBC programme. Fabulous singing voice but the CD is let down by the songs. Shame - however there are a few decent songs to give you a reason to buy and then there is her voice which is rich & has great vocal range.

GROSSLY underated artist. After buying this collection, I have suddenly gone mad for Syreeta and have been hunting down her studio albums. Shame some of them have yet to see the light of day on CD and/or digital download but the vinyl versions I have obtained are in great condition.

Not many artists are blessed with a voice that is sweet, soulful AND powerful. Syreeta, God Bless Her, was one of these.

"Your Kisses Sweet" is SO catchy, as is "Harmour Love" (love the "Oh Joe" bit in the song!)but my fave track on this collection has got to be "Let's Make A Deal" with GC Cameron. SUPERB SUPERB track!!!

I think it's time for Syreeta's back catalogue to be revisited again by the powers that be so they are available again and are easily obtainable. No-one wants to pay £130.00 for an out-of-print Japanese -only CD issue!

Enjoy!!!

To add to the first review - Mr Wonder does kind of duet with his (ex)wife a couple of times that I know of, and I'm no expert. He sings the first verse only - about a minute - on his own - of the barnstorming long track To Know You Is To Love You. (Not the Phil Spector song.) And he sings very heavily synthesised / Vocoded backing vocals on the surprisingly good version of The Beatles' She's Leaving Home. (The latter's not on this album.) Right, I'll get my anorak and go...
This collection borrows more from the lightweight, catchy pop of Syreeta's 2nd album, rather than the more serious 'Music Of My Mind' Era synthesiser-happy Stevie Wonder songs of the first album. He wrote most of the tracks on both of these albums. The CD with both albums (about 20 tracks) in their entirety is therefore much better, but hard to get hold of. So only 3.5 stars for this one.
