Jazz. Rhythm and Blues. Swing. Pop. Rock and Roll. Just where would you categorise Louis Jordan ? Well, just about everywhere, I think. What ever the music was that he was making in the Forties and early Fifties, it influenced nearly everyone around him, and at least one future genration too. Amusing story-telling songs, all delivered with a panashe and a humour reminiscent, in part, of Fats Waller, further enhanced by his precise, clear diction, and usually embellished with his swinging alto sax solo's, Louis Jordan was a musical giant of his time. This is as close to a "Best Of" that you could get on one CD, and there is very little here to disappoint. His output was extensive. His success, especially in the R and B charts was legendary. And his overall influence was enormous. If you are unfamiliar with Louis Jordan, or just want to remind yourself how great he was, this is the place to start. Oh, and yes. Bearing in mind you are listening to music, most of which was laid down around 50 years ago, the sound quality is excellent too.
