3.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful music, tabs poorly translated 10 Sep 2011
By Tomas A. Maly - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
The music is diverse and beautiful from Debussy's Clair de Lune to Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, great for learning beyond the traditional studies-type books, but the book falls a bit short with the tablature in that they are NOT transcribed for minimal left-hand movement. There were several pieces that were otherwise easy to play except the tabs had you jump your left hand from 4th string second fret to/from the seventh fret, which not only is impossible (I do have quite large hands) without repositioning the left hand, but comically could have been done by the 3rd string 2nd fret (right there!). It makes no sense, and ought to be redone. The guitar transcription also needs some work, there are brief mentions of barres, but not how large (1/2, 1/3, etc) or how long they last. There are also NO indications of LH finger positioning, which would help to position one's hand/fingers in advance to minimize LH movement.

I would recommend this book if you're getting it for a few bucks, but generally would recommend learning how to sight read for the guitar and find several other classical guitar songbooks out there. There are predominantly more standard notation only books than just tab-based.
3.0 out of 5 stars Beginner Guitar 26 Feb 2013
By JorgeLuisBorgeJr. - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is an excellent purchase...for beginners. I now realize that buying sheet music from Amazon can be tricky. Especially when it deals with transcriptions. Unlike your local music store, you can't really thumb through the pages to gauge the quality or difficulty of the transcription. This is a good book for those learning how to play guitar however the pieces lack some of the expected harmonic complexity (I'm looking at you Clair de Lune)and fullness of other transcriptions. Consider this a primer with musical themes.

You've been warned.
