Product Description

Product Description

British folk and roots music never went away; the musicians who'd come up in the Sixties have continued to develop, record and bring the music collected in the 19th century to public attention. Folk is now getting the recognition it deserves for its persistence in keeping British heritage alive - as you can witness by listening to the music assembled here.

With forty tracks and just over two hours of listening pleasure this is a great album to own, especially as I doubt that most of us have all these tracks already. From A Capella to single instrument, onto more Folk Rock type music there is a great range of Folk from our shores covered here. Although Folk did start to go through a revival before it sort of dropped off, but now it is back with a vengeance, and this compilation of tracks with some of the big names that brought this type of music to people’s attention in the Sixties is well worth listening to.

You have gentle tracks, to ones about working life, and more politically centred tracks here, which are all great. From more traditional tracks there are newer ones as well, and there are a couple of traditional Irish Folk tracks on here as well. One great thing about this type of music in the UK is the variety we have in regional dialects and thus when you listen to something like this it does in some ways feel that you are travelling around. With great reproduction and clear sound this would make a really good present for someone who is new to the Folk scene, as well as for us old ones. This is ideal for transferring onto your iPod so that you can listen away when commuting, and de-stress yourself.

Some of the tracks were more modern guitar ballads than folk - I am more into traditional instruments and songs. However, the collection as a whole gives a good coverage and I got to hear some new people I hadn't heard of before. Two cds I thought it was a bargain for the price.
